What constitutes a mass shooting? From your source: "one or more individuals actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a populated area"
This unsurprisingly has a very wide scope, while most of us would classify a mass shooting as an event involving a mentally ill or extremist shooter(s) committing random, indiscriminate (did not know the victims), violence on a large scale.
Some notable statistics from your source:
- 4% of mass shootings are done by females
- On average 142 people die per year from a mass shooting
- 63% of mass shootings are committed with handguns
- 3% of mass shootings involved the use of illegally manufactured explosives
- All government and military property shootings resulted in the apprehension, killing, or suicide of the mass shooter
- In total, 16% of shootings were stopped by civilians either killing or restraining the shooter
- 29% of shootings in education environments were stopped by civilians either killing or restraining the shooter
- 26% of shootings in houses of worship were stopped by civilians either killing or restraining the shooter
- 14% of shootings in government property were stopped by civilians either killing or restraining the shooter
- 13% of shootings in healthcare facilities were stopped by civilians either killing or restraining the shooter
- 10% of shootings in malls were stopped by civilians either killing or restraining the shooter
- 5% of shootings in businesses closed to pedestrian traffic were stopped by civilians either killing or restraining the shooter
- 4% of shootings in open spaces were stopped by civilians either killing or restraining the shooter
- 3% of shootings in businesses open to pedestrian traffic were stopped by civilians either killing or restraining the shooter

To take it a step further, cops with their guns only stop 63% of active shooters.

A woman in charleston shot a man firing into a crowd dead a few days ago. He wont show up in your stats as a mass shooter because he was put down before he could become one

Besides, what those stats OP shared tell me is that we need more people carrying so we can increase those stats.

Such a dumb question. The Uvalde shooter was shot by a good guy with a gun. If the police weren't in the way it probably would have happened much sooner.
Shootings get stopped all the time by good shooters.
The government shouldn't have the right to infringe on anyone's self defense. If you have to rely on the government to protect you, your not safe. Citizens should be using the same weaponry available to police because they deal with the same threats.

what is 'stopped'? after they had already killed 12 people?
seems to me the only thing that can happen by arming more good guys more heavily is that the bad guys get bigger, quicker guns. These mass killings used to be done with rifles and hand guns. Now its body armour and ARs..

Lol it's actually 3%, goober.
But yes, it works but only if done right. That's the problem.
Someone has to die in active shooter cases regardless. That's the sad reality.

One thing no one ever talks about is lives saved by guns. Look up stories of kids that get followed home so they grab their parents rifle. It happens more than you'd think.

Now you know, and knowing's half the battle.
Mass shootings in similarly developed nations have become exceedingly rare: Ex. 1996 Dunblane in Scotland, 1996 Port Arthur Australia
Yet here we are.
Just a few miles from me here in Colorado we've had Columbine 1999, Aurora 2012, Boulder 2021...and those are just the shootings that had 10+ victims.

Of course more of "good guy with a gun" would work, it's stupid to suggest otherwise. The problem is, it only works sometimes and fools point to the times it doesn't.

Nothing individually will fix it all, and nothing really will make enough of an easy, immediate change for the side who is against it to justify it. You could also do everything that isn't contradictive and these things will still happens. That's just life. America overall still has it pretty good. There's no civil war, there's no corrupt police on every corner with rifles, there's no major cartels/ISIS/etc, of course this doesn't mean things can be better, but the people who get super worked up about "JFC America is terrible" are just naive.

Active shooters choose places where no one can be armed, dipchit. They choose places libs have decided don’t need protection like schools. So obviously no good guy can have a gun.
Which is the whole point of the argument of good guy with a gun.
Not to mention your stats on cops is a worthless misleading stat. Most of the time the shooter kills himself when cops get there. It has nothing to do with cops not stopping it with their guns. Simply being present stops it. Literally every mass shooting rampage has ended when cops arrive. Literally the cops are the good guys with the guns in these scenarios. Holy fukin chit you are a dumfuk
