The reason most movies suck these days
You have leads who are either women or teens or young adults who look like they just came out of a fukkin incubator.
These people are not interesting. They are just pretty to look at but do not exude substance.
What's interesting is a man who looks like he's been through some chit. Someone with experience and real 'scars'. You can watch a scene in the Sopranos of guys just sitting and having coffee and it will be enjoyable because you are looking at a bunch of stressed out middle aged guys. They have chit going on, they have experience, they are under pressure and they look it.
Compare that to the Many Saints movie. Everyone is too clean and neat. You can't really relate to their lives.
Action movies are the worst. You got people with lacquered skin and chiseled bodies that look untouchable. They have amazing acrobatic skills and genius minds naturally because they are that perfect. In contrast, Harrison ford was 40 in raiders of the lost arc. Bruce willis was in his 30's in die hard but looked 40. Keaton was 37 when playing batman and also looked 40. They looked like guys who were just smart and tough enough to possibly handle that chit.
Arnold and Sly were exceptions but that was their allure back then. They were something extraordinary. But even they were both in late 30's in most of their big movies.
Note that oldcels are not as interesting too as main characters. They are great characters to have in any movie but they don't have the physicality. That scene of deniro beating up the store owner in Irishman was embarrassing.

Movies suck now because the writing is flimsy. Concepts that are constantly trying to be edgy/woke, and bad acting. There's a reason they're remaking everything, because no one has any real vision anymore.

That's why I love what A24 is doing. They actually try to take risks in their storytelling which I can appreciate.
OP there's plenty of films you probably haven't seen that are great that are ten or 20 years old.

It's CGI, writing, woke culture. Nothing else.
Tom Cruise was 24 when he did Top Gun for example. I have no issues with young and upcoming talent. Not to mention great actors like Bale were childhood actors. Makes no sense to hate on the younger actors if they're talented.

If you look at Hollywood (disregarding all the sexual allegations and **** crap) it is too formulaic and is only about one thing. Money.
Hollywood puts money above all else. It;s why they try and cater to the greatest common factor of retards. They will literally do calculus on how much money they will earn if they sub in a black person for a white person in a movie.
If you want the bullchit that Hollywood pumps out to go away, stop watching it. All the remakes or derivative sequels that are only out to make a buck versus be a good movie would quickly disappear. So would all the woke diversity bullchit.

It's mostly the writing, really. Without a fantastic script the Sopranos would be just a bunch of fat literal retards going around murdering each other and talking about gabagool. Nowadays imo it's mostly about committees and test audiences and whatnot. Still, there are always a couple of really solid films each year.
There's also some nostalgia bias because all of us remember the classic 90s/00s etc hits, but if we really think about it there was always an ungodly amount of terrible shlock that came out of Hollywood.

I think there are a lot of factors. I'm going to be a dick here and say aside from a lot of reasons listed here one thing is the average movie-goer is a brain-dead asswipe with no taste. A lot of great movies out there that don't clean up at the box office like they should because everyone is into lame movie-night type of crap movies.
I remember when Scorsese criticized Marvel films for not being true cinema and most people disagreed with him. Like people can't put things into the proper perspective think "yeah he's got a point... But I still enjoy the mindless action and computer effects" instead they think he's and old man yelling at a cloud cuz Captain America was somehow artistic in some sense.
Also in most cases of you want to get a studio's attention for your film you have to kowtow to the right people and spears your butt cheeks open to the right greasy Jewish men if you want to get in a position where you make creative decisions for a film. Men and women with any artistic integrity and merit would never go that route for a craft they are passionate about.

IDK..look at all the brat pack movies out of the 80's..Ferris Bueller, Breakfast Club, etc. those were some good flicks, the problem today is the writers, they suck. Heard of stories that once a good writer gets in they (Hollywood) try to push all sorts of weird chit on them so they just end up leaving so Hollywood is just stuck doing remakes or the same story over and over again, or just push some sik peeedow, trans, woke, bullchit.

the viewers suck. the customers suck.
all of you are killing the writers or the CGI but blame the people for shelling out money. customers are accepting lower quality so of course Hollywood backs off and just churns out easy marvel movies

The volume of movies and TV series is incredible (which is a terrible thing). Just tonnes and tonnes of mediocrity. I can't fathom the effort, money, time, etc that goes into making completely worthless movies and garbage TV series. It's mind blowing.
I also blame the Chinese. It's a big market and any film makers catering to them will produce tacky garbage that is easy to follow.
It also seems that a lot of movies are being made for family viewing, suitable for kids. A lot of the best action films were rated 18 (is that R in the US?) but now they're rated PG, 12 or 15 (sorry don't know the equivalent US ratings).

I heard good things about 'Better call Saul' but the first two seasons are basically your standard legal drama and very little like Breaking Bad. The whole Hamlin vs McGill storyline is strung out and uninteresting. I am struggling to stay interested. It feels like a chore watching it. I have given up on numerous shows over the years as they were mediocre at best and I had zero interest in what happened next...something I never felt watching seasons 1-6 of GOT and the earlier seasons of TWD.
