I make over 250 just myself and my girl about 200

I have plenty of $ and assets/nice things, but nowhere where I should be if it was 2-3 years ago.

I should be on my 3rd house at least but not anymore

Went from 240k to 500-550k and lots of dead beat renters moving into austin area

I don’t live paycheck to paycheck but again Im saying the time we will live in 250k is not a lot, I can’t imagine running a wife who doesn’t work and 2-3 kids, no Fukn way.

I’d be revolting against the elites if I was there

$250k is a ton of money in my world. I'm invoicing about $21k/month on the current contract and the money just piles it because it has nowhere to go.

Accumulation of assets + $200k income long term is to the point where you don't even need to think about daily expenses IMO. If you have deeper six and into seven figures invested or otherwise floating around, $100 extra on food and $200 extra on gas is pretty inconsequential. Now if you're out dropping thousands on partying then it's a different story, but you'd be hard pressed to erode that type of income with regular expenses even if they get a bit out of control

You can easily erode $200k income with financing lots of toys for high interest rates tho. Or if you live in a financial center with really high cost of living maybe

I make ~100 and live like a peasant. Financial security is worth more than any luxury item imo. Spend my $$$ on home cooked food, traveling on occasional, and save the rest.

They make enough until they get laid off since they have so savings. Seen it plenty of times. The same guys bragging and boasting like you go broke in a month because they never saved any of it.

100k a year is rich if you are smart with your money. $250k a year is poor if you're dumb.

The budget is created....they just push it to the limit. Most people cant fathom an "emergency" would happen to them and i feel like American culture teaches the "I need it now attitude"
Pretty easy to blow $250k yearly salary on stupid chit.

Im all about balancing waiting then going big. One example.
At $250k I was still driving an old honda accord. Was functional and clean. My colleagues all bought new benzs, escalades, porsche, chit like that.
I invested my extra money and when those investments made money, i went from honda to lambo. now the lambos hold value while the benz is worthless.

People thinkin buying a $30k watch or a $250k lambo is where you blow your money and its not true. Buying the $120k benz that is worth $40k in 5 years is where you blow your money and on top of that, its not incrementally more fun to drive that benz then a honda......so if you go that route.....you better have cash to blow and not even care just for comfort.

This is what I hate the most about America : this "keeping up with the Jones" mentality.

People will literally crawl in debt just to show off and try to impress complete stranger.

BRB getting a car payment that you can't afford
BRB wasting thousands of dollars in disgusting designer clothes
BRB maxxing out your credit cards
BRB showing a lifestyle that is clearly not yours.

I love cars to death but I will never put several thousand of euros into a supercar before securing my house (that means not owing a damn penny to bank), my kids uni tuition fees and a fully stacked retirement plan saving accounts.

You probably live in a low COL area. $100k where you live is like earning $300k in a real city.

I don't know how much of it is really to impress other people rather than a sense of entitlement that they see someone else they believe is in their socio economic bracket has something so they should be able to have it too.

I mean - if you ever make a lot of money and don't drive a nice car or have a big house - people are legitimately shocked

Dont see how you can pull all of that off while also maxxing out all of your qualified accounts and also saving in your investment accounts.

Yeah I think sacrificing and investing at the front end is key to maximizing your situation regardless of income

Gotta live well below your means and squirrel money away to form the snowball and get it rolling first. After you have a good amount of cash floating around in various things and income-producing assets, then you can lean a bit more into indulging within your means

This is the formula. Unfortunately most Americans do not understand the process of delayed gratification. And that doesnt mean slaving away for 40 years until you can finally buy something nice.

I have a pension that is automatically pulled from my paycheck. Again, I just save. The current house I am about to sell I bought when I was making $35k in 2007, had to take out a 2nd mortgage because I had no down payment even. I paid off the 2nd mortgage as fast as I could because the rate was high, if I remember right it was a 15 year and I paid it off in maybe 6. I could have upgraded 8+ years ago, but was happy with everything until I found a house I truly loved. Living in a house that’s about 1,000 square feet when I was making over double when I bought the house made it easy to save. I haven’t changed my life style since I started working because I’m happy with my life. Literally the only things I cared about was eventually a nicer daily driver and a house I loved. Wanted to make sure I had the house first so I could sell mine and use the equity for a big down payment on the new vehicle along with upgrades to the new house.

Living for 17 years like you are making $35-40k because you’re still having a great time without spending a ton of money makes it easy to do what I just explained.

This isn't surprising. It seems like every idiot has one of those stupid $40-$60k side by sides, along with their $90k raptor or $100k TRX to tow it around. Then there are the sensible ones that tow with their $75k 3/4 ton, but they need that for their boat and 4 jetskis, a gas truck wouldn't do it.
Mileage doesn't matter though, they'll just drive one of the Tesla's to work. Poor people will have a 3 and Y, but if you want to let people know whats up, you need a S and X.
And why make food at home when door dash can bring it at a 3x mark up? Gives me more time to fuk around in VR and online gambling.

I've never met someone making 6 figures a year that didn't feel entitled to luxury items (cars, houses, new bathrooms, kitchens with fancy counters, etc.) That's why a huge percentage live paycheck to paycheck.

You are 52. You likely have your home paid off. What do you retirement accounts look like? I’m maxing my 401k, HSA, and capped out the $20k max my wife and I could buy in Ibonds. I never said I couldn’t save since I am obviously doing that. Where is the dumb shyt spending you seem to think I have? All I said was it goes quick. $250k today is nothing like $250k 10 or 20 years ago I would imagine.

This is the product of totalitarianism. The welfare state, unemployment, Medicaid/Medicare…they plan to do what boomers did, live off of government handouts when they retire. They have been taught that these things are their “right”. This weak mindedness leads to irresponsible behavior
One party system; Most Republicans are Democrats, but no Democrats are Republicans.
Hayek and Mises were right; they're all socialists.
"To Call something fair or unfair is a subjective value judgment and not liable to any verification" Ludwig Von Mises

This is facts. I caught that......beccause I have been there. Between taxes, maxing all of your qualified accounts, etc.....its not like $250k is balling by any means. Assuming you are relatively young......I call the $250k range the "in between or make or break" range. This is where its important to be uber focused on that extra change you have lying around. You have to make smart investments with that money to get you to the next level. Is it real estate? A seperate business venture (whether hands on or silent), do you just put it in the market like your tax deferred acccounts? Put in market with more aggressive growth stocks? There are tons of ways to invest or blow that money. What happens next either puts you in the "comfortable" range or the "living pay check to pay check with a nice car range"

This is the range where you get absolutely destroyed by taxes.
