Sounds like a lot of people don't know how to manage money. Just because you make 250k means you can live like someone making 500k. 250k is over 10k a month. If you are broke with that then you need help. Time to sell that 5 series bmw and get into a smaller house, oh and stop popping out babies like you can afford them.

$250k/year

Easy to start getting assets with that money

Buy up local businesses

Buy up property and rent them out

Invest in Stock/Crypto/ETF's/ Gold & Silver

One could easily become a millionaire on $250k/year

Is that supposed to be a lot of money in 2022?

Cause 1M barely buys you a new home in my metro and this isn’t even an expensive place comparatively. It would be a home that a normal boomer comfortable bought 40 years ago while raising his family and stay at home wife

Cheers to that

I’m just constantly shocked at how much the world has been changing in the past couple of years with regards to costs/income. I need to mentally halve a dollar number to capture how much it’s worth from a year ago

So 250k is really 125k from a year ago. Should be able to live comfortably as a single person in a high/medium cost of living area without kids. But it ain’t nothing like 250k would have been a year ago. 500k is the new 250k srs

Was listening to some podcasts today and based on the inflation/taxation, 100-200k salaries are getting hit the hardest because it bumped them in to the upper tax brackets, which is usually where the 300k+ salaries sit.

On top of that, there is a tremendous amount of irresponsible and misguided investing in these groups as well. The fed and really bad economists are all telling them the wrong things to invest in and they are losing everything.

Also even if our portfolios were keeping up with inflation (they aren’t), you’d have to pay capital gains even though you didn’t actually gain anything

Say you had a 1M portfolio a year ago, and it grew to 2M today. It’s really worth the same amount, but you’ll have to pay cap gains on 1M

I’ll be honest, I mentioned him and got ripped for it. I don’t listen to Ramsey at all, but it was something I saw on Tv years ago and it just stuck. Misc set me straight. My wife bought me one of his books years ago, but never read it. Luckily I found several other very well educated investors and economists. Had no idea Ramsey was out there.

Investing can be really complicated, or really easy, but that depends on where you were educated on the subject and wether or not you’re getting legit info. We have a group managing our retirement, but I was able to dip my toes in to it with some side cash. Did well and still making money from the few I didn’t sell off, but it could have also been some luck involved.

My biggest worry now, which I didn’t think of until this week was whether our management group is using climate and woke policies in their investment protocols. I’ll be calling them this week and doing some research on the subject, and if that’s the case, I’m not even sure how I go about switching or correcting the behavior with ours. Many of these large companies added wokeness to their investing habits, which is REALLY dangerous; avoiding white male businesses and investing in black businesses etc. My wife and I are mid 40s now, can’t be dealing with such irresponsible management.

Yup as I suspected, you are one of those tards that watches TV and wears a tin foil hat. Truth of the matter is, the original person posting they made $250k had the right (Logical) assessment. The answer is obviously in the middle of both extremes:

1. I don't think it's deniable that our QOL has deteriorated and that old salaries quoted as "making it" (i.e. 6 figures, $250K, etc.) don't buy the same lifestyle they used to

2. People who literally are living paycheck to paycheck (which I define as "If payroll doesn't hit my bank account this week, I'm phucked" and/or "I cannot afford an unforeseen car issue/health problem or else I might be screwed") on $250K are probably financially retarded or have a really nice lifestyle that's just expensive and requires money (see point 1). For example, if you're in NYC and trying to raise a family on $250K, I kind of get you might need to pay for private schools, etc., but that's also a privilege most people do without.

At the end of the day, everyone wants to be flashy and buy fancy things because of the saturation of consoomerism and the ubiquitous nature of social media showing how the super wealthy are living these days. People in general need to budget and try to spend big on a few things that make them happy instead of trying to have it all and going into debt to get there.

Good lord the crap you spew is hilarious. Give me a portfolio that doubled over a year and Id be glad to pay cap gains on the gains of 15-20%. GTFO with that example LOLz.

You know what, you're right. I was mistaken in thinking it costs 3x more to heat home, 2x to buy food, 2x for daycare, 2x for housing, 2x for a car etc. Must have just been my imagination

If you already own a home and don't have kids you are raising and don't need to buy a car now, then sure

But if you're trying to start out (young kids, trying to buy home), you have been absolutely fooked

Property ownership is a necessary part of a free country. The less people that own private property, the more powerful the few, and Fed, become. Spreading out property over many spreads wealth and power.

This is more serious than most understand.

And before you two throw any more insults my way, telling me I live paycheck to paycheck and am dumb with money. you have no idea who you are talking to

I started my career and investing path nearly a decade ago now, I took bogleheads investing to heart and have lived and continue to live on ~25 percent of my gross income and invest the rest. I even maxed both my IRA 401k to the legal limit before I graduated college and continue to use the backdoor

I'll only give you some of that info

Still relatively young and not on the property ladder. In a medium cost of living area. I want kids soon. So thats why I look at the price of homes and childcare etc.

I'm in the income group mentioned in the article in the OP
