How couples met each other...

TFW you lived during peak "met at work".

Personal odds of meeting someone via a dating app are super low since I've got no desire to even try one...

I went to therapy and she said you can't meet anyone irl anymore try dating apps and i said i don't wanna meet anyone online it's weird

How is almost everyone meeting online or at bars now? This is the complete opposite of how it was 10 years ago.

Notice how social media use is about 10x of a bigger deal than it was 10 years ago, too.

Coincidence? I think not. People are becoming complete retards socially. Not sure how old you are, but you should get a load of how socially awkward the parents are nowadays at school functions for their kids. I have a young daughter and run into a ton of millennials (which I am myself).

The older millennialcel parents, tend to do alright, but there's a noticable gap between them and the younger ones born in the mid-90's. Us oldcel millennials relate more to Gen-X, whereas the younger millennialcels are just an assshair away from being zoomercels who don't even remember what life was like without having high speed internet access in your home 24/7.

Their social lives literally ARE social media/online, so they naturally date online too.

I met my current girl at the farmers market. Cute af 19 year old. I’d have countless interactions with girls every time I went. I also have the best looking dogs and people flock to them.

Random tangential tidbit from the podcast referenced previously:

- GenX has lower labor participation than Boomers because there are more GenX single income families

- GenX has a lower divorce rate than Boomers

Maybe because GenX experienced being latch key kids and having divorced parents?

We were also mostly pairing up during the peak "met at work".

ETA: around the 40 minute mark FWIW

ETA 2: totally unrelated- says that US labor will be relatively tight until the 2040's due to demographic factors

Boomers: half retired already

GenX: small generation with lower labor participation

Millenials: missing 3 to 5 years of work experience due to various factors

Zoomers: a generation as small as GenX...and maybe even less interested in working, because they are more invested in virtual life

AIDS had a large impact on gen X.

Boomers had the 60s and 70s to sleep around, with the advent of the pill etc

AIDS became a big thing when gen X was at that age and it scared the crap out of them.

Millenials were no longer scared of AIDS when they got to that age.

As a result, gen X probably chose their partners more carefully than either boomers or millenials.

I have met every single one of the women I've been with totally by accident in chance encounters and we felt a "rush" or "sparks" and took it from there.

You have to be willing to follow up on such encounters.

I had one online date and I felt like I was with a total stranger. We had a great conversation and dinner but I felt like I was with a relative of work associate so I was not interested.

I am hugely ambivalent to women I don't know or get a special feeling from no matter how good looking they are.

Lol one of my exes I met at a bar we weren't wasted or anything though just started talking while starting our first drink, and she had just seen the movie District 9, and I chimed in that I hadn't seen the movie yet, and she got all hysterical telling me how I needed to see it.

As the night went on I noticed we had a lot in common music, movies etc.

Then she messaged me on ******** to go to the same bar again...This was back when ******** was at it's peak with everyone using it 2008-2014 era.

That's when I knew she was interested.

She was the best man.

I've never tried it myself, just read posts by miscers mainly [yeah, maybe not the best possible sample] and it doesn't seem fun at all. I hate the current job board/online application thing for jobs too.

A dating app has roughly the same appeal. And some of the same "WTH?" factor ...meaning who even knows what the person screening on the other side is really looking for, what will get you DQ'd, or if they are trying to meet IRL at all.

ETA: Or if it is even a real person. So that is a lot like job boards also.

Most people are undateable. Online dating just speeds up that process of screening them.

If you can’t string together a conversation where you have time to sit and think about your response before sending,

Just imagine you in person lmao.

People with good social skills would rather meet in person not on a phony app

I swear so many people have autism these days because of social media just do everything online because real life is too hard

Had the best conversations in the '90's. I sort of thought it was an age thing- mostly 20-somethings. Now? Sigh...

I can chat up near strangers IRL if I make the effort, but it's not so easy. Feels like there are too many landmines to avoid.

ETA:

misc katya = | = irl katya

Same person, still think about all sorts of stuff, but I at most gently nudge topics to see how the person responds. I'm not like - WHAMMO - killer vax, Great Reset, geopolitics, finance, etc. etc.

Neighbor today-

So I don't know if you follow economics stuff...

"Oh yeah, I was just watching a guy talking about the stock market you know? Says you should just leave your investments alone and don't pay any attention- markets go up and down...blah blah blah"

[inside thoughts: yeah, but neighbor you are over 60 and retired...]

Right, I dunno though, seems like it could be pretty bad with this crazy inflation...

Never met anyone online because JFL @ dating someone you meet on a "HOOK UP" app. They aren't "dating" apps.

A lot of girls explicitly state they are looking for relationships and no hook ups on their profile.
