PSMF - Anyone have experience?

Considering PSMF or alternate day eating for rapid weight loss. I let myself go at Christmas/new years dinner and haven't been back since. I'm 15lbs over what I would like to be. I have 17 days to drop the weight.

Maybe instead of starving yourself for two weeks and then going back to being a lardass you should just stop letting yourself go.

This was a big thing on the misc 2-3 years ago. Lots of people had pretty impressive results in the 2 week spans. It's a very short term fix however and most rebound after going back to normal eating routines.

I do it every year but only to cut after bulking season. 7-8lbs max. I simply don't have the patience.

Exactly what was said above. Most people who choose to do PSMF don't have patience both ways. Losing and gaining. It won't fix your bad habits and if you don't very gradually reintroduce the calories, you'll shoot right back up.

This is true. You should be able to get the results you're looking for if you run it for 1-2 weeks. It's up to you whether you go ham and erase all of your progress as soon as the PSMF ends. I've run it several times with good results.

This is always how I thought about it as well. You can't keep this up indefinitely, so what happens after?

It seems PSMF should only be considered if you're extremely obese. If you're not, just cut using one of the tried and true methods some of us have pursued here time and time again.

I think it's applicable to OP's situation. If OP were to run a standard deficit for the next 2 weeks, he stands to lose MAYBE 5lbs, with the majority of that being water. If he runs the PSMF for 10-14 days, he could easily lose 10+. He would just need to be careful to ease back in to regular eating when coming off and not go full binge mode.

I actually disagree with the last part. I think PSMF is best suited for an experienced lifter/dieter who wants to drop some excess weight fast for an occasion like a vacation, pool party ect. Someone who's obese already has poor eating habits and going from over eating to drastically under eating is not a good path.

Aware and agree. Just asking if any of the surviving miscers have experience with it and any nuanced tips or things to expect.

I am experienced in weight cutting and sustaining proper eating and low bf over a long term. Agreed on the last part. As a new father with new priorities I used christmas and new years as an excuse to let go for a short time and it ended up being a long time.

I've always wanted to try it but never had the balls. It seems like something that would be really difficult to work through, especially working a demanding career. Any personal experience?

Can I ask why you want to do PSMF if you're relatively experienced with the lifter lifestyle?

I haven't but have associated with many who have in my circle. I don't like extreme diets personally, I prefer keeping things slow and sustainable. The idea of eating ~1000 calories a day for 2 weeks sounds horrible. Plus the process of reacclimating to a normal diet is a pain.

Overall no interest when a normal diet works fine.

I hear people proclaim how great it works, but I've yet to see someone do a log of this diet for more than a couple weeks. Makes me think it can not be maintained long.

IMO, I hate the name of it. It's not a "fast". You're eating fuking food. Maybe it's very low calorie and high protein, which may do well for fat burning and sparing muscle, whatever, but it's not a fuking fast. The second you eat that lean protein or scoop of whey, you broke your damn fast.

Going lower carb and alternate-day fasting works fairly well. You drop weight, you can do well maintaining LBM. It's not easy, though. Every other night you're suffering - even if you're used to fasting. The drawback here is being unused to lifting in a keto state and missing workouts or intensity. You can go keto for a month prior, tends to adapt me very well to lifting 1hour+ while keto.

Fuk all that if you're training for anything that demands maximum athletic effort, you need carbs for that and it's hard to fast every other day while de-carbing constantly, plus you likely lose a lot of the muscle-sparing benefits. Someone might try blasting with a handful of carbs prior to workout though, that works if you're metabolically stable so long as you don't overdo the carbs.
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

What's the rush? Might as well just eat 500 calories below maintenance long term for a slower but maintainable fat loss.

Agreed. Typically this is the case. I have never gone on an "extereme" diet before. Maybe large deficits but nothing crazy.

You will have a much easier time of it if you focus on whole foods and avoid shakes/protein bars, and you also need to take careful notice of your electrolytes because you can die on this diet.

its only meant for short term use and is honestly probably best used at 15% or so max bf

the one and only time I had a clear 6 pack and chiseled face was when I PSMF for 6-8 weeks down from 15% to about 10%

using it at higher bf won't work because the results wont be as quick or nearly as motivating

also when yo go back to a normal diet cravings and appetite will come back 10x as strong as before DFS

if youre a lardass run a regular deficit for 3 months then finish with a PMSF

eat nothing other than chicken or protein shakes either when you do

also count every bbq sauce calorie if youre like me
