5 friends; same photo every 5 years

Copco Lake, California (CNN) — Five friends' celebrated photo taken every five years at the same California lake is out for the world to see despite one man's recent cancer scare.
They took photo No. 9 on Wednesday, 40 years after they shot the first in 1982 at a prefabricated cabin at Copco Lake along the California-Oregon border. Their tradition went viral 10 years ago -- and again in 2017 -- when CNN.com published their story and photos.
Some of the guys openly feared it could be a photo of four friends this year instead of the five first pictured as teenagers.
"I was crushed," said John Dickson, who lives in Santa Barbara where the friends first met. "We worried there would be an empty spot on the bench where we take the picture."

I think 2002 is out of place. I checked and I have them in the correct CNN order. I think 2002 and 2007 need to be swapped.

What you reckon?

Kind of amazing that all 5 of them were able to stay friends this whole time and that none of them left the group or died. In my late teens, early 20's, I had a pretty close tight knit group of friends, 6 of us that I would consider the core group of friends. Well, one died. Another who was a cuck who married a woman who didn't like us, so he disappeared off the face of the face of the earth. Another moved to Thailand. That leaves three of us, but the other two besides myself had a falling out with each other, so they don't talk or hang out anymore, but I'm still friends with both separately, which is pretty sad. I'm kind of jelly of these guys being able to keep it going.

You can fight superficial aging Ala Tom Cruise and do botox, injections, hair transplants, etc. That seems more depressing as vanity is a constant worry on your mind.

I think it's great that they are still meeting up. I noticed around 40-something that I preferred media peeps who are my age and older mainly. Something about having more shared history/experience, they "get" the same references, remember the same trends and events.

That was about the same time that I used FB to find out what I could about what happened to people that I had been friends with during my 20's:

- one in Germany, remarried with a child

- one who had been in CO w/wife and one child, at that time in Chicago married to a new wife with a bunch of new children

- one divorced now with a son IIRC and he was in NM, had moved to the NE...Maine? Vermont?

- one who had been @ UC Berkley I think who at that time was living in Asia

30's crowd:

- moved to AK, recently back in TX but not nearby

- moved back to AR and still there

- moved to WA and still there

- moved to the midwest, found out they recently returned south of here

- ex and I had moved to MI and back in TX
