I hate this fight so much man. GGG is my favorite fighter of the last 5-7 years. He’s an absolute fearless monster with an iron chin and he 100% got robbed of victory against Canelo. You can even argue he won the rematch too. It’s a travesty and one of boxing’s most offensive examples of corrupt judging.

That being said, this 40 year old Golovkin does NOT belong anywhere near a ring with Canelo. He’s an old man. Slower, battle worn. GGG got a gift decision against Derevynchenko and even on paper only won that scrap because of he scored a flash knockdown in the first round. He’s been getting hit to the body by C-level opponents in his recent bouts, as he’s clearly on the way out.

Canelo has only improved since their fights. Sure he lost to Bivol recently, but he’s still a more technically rounded figure in his athletic prime. I wish Golovkin would just hang up the gloves and go out as the legend he is, because as it stands I predict he gets KO’d with a body shot. That’s gonna be sad to watch.

Golovkin is way over the hill. Men hit their athletic prime between 28-32, give or take a few years. Gennady is now a 40 old fighter with a ton of miles on him who has visibly slowed down in recent years. The Canelo wars were some of the greatest boxing of last decade, but even then the phenom that was GGG had already begun to decline (see: GGG vs Jacobs). Unless he’s some kind of genetic freak like B-Hop or Foreman, this is not going to end well for the Kazakh.
