Well, I've had these conversations now with many pilots and many ATCs. They all had stories of pilots and ATCs going back and forth. Including flying into Boston during the playoffs and ending radio transmissions with go Yankees resulting in two hours of circling, or as one the ATCs that was there for this story corrected him and called it penalty vectors. And the other pilots' first question was, were you getting OT? so for twenty years I've been hearing these stories from many pilots and many ATCs. Even several FAs.

Regardless, nothing of value is lost to me by not flying

Ahhh I see what you mean by "penalty vectors", I have no idea what tower controllers do as I'm not in the environment. So I'm sure they have tons of down time in between their morning/afternoon pushes and have nothing better to do

If I was to ever issue a "penalty vector" QC would have me filling out forms and explaining myself after a pilot complained so fast. Having to pull tapes and explain myself to a room full of people why I put him on a vector away from the airport for no reason.

Let me just reiterate to people.... flying in the US airspace is the safest way to travel, and the easiest. There are so many instances that the flying public would never know a situation almost ended badly because of the work of pilots/atc
