Why do some of yall want huge legs?

I dont get it.

My legs used to be ~29 inches (~500 lb squat 315 lb hang power clean so obviously muscular) and it completely sucked.

Can't fit into any jeans and you don't look athletic. You look fat if you wear baggy clothes, etc.

It's not like my upper body was small (could bang out 23 pullups) but my legs still made my upper body look relatively small.

Life is so much better now that my legs are smaller.

I'm in the same boat as you these days OP. My lower body training these days is more about joint health and becoming more athletic. I still do a little hypertrophy work but fuk doing chit like heavy 5x10 squats and such i would rather build more muscle in my upper body and be fast on my feet.

when chicks feel your thighs for the first time and their eyes get wide...

easy pants solution, but pants that fit your thighs and crotch, then have a tailor take in the waist.

Well this is a bodybuilding forum sooo….

I’m just trying to be proportionate. 20+ years of lifting I figured a long time ago I would never be massive without gear.

As a mens physique competitor our entire division is a punch line of “haha skipping leg day”

But I totally agree with OP. Big legs make you less aesthetic to the average person AND makes you less athletic in any sport that requires endurance

I don’t advocate skipping working out legs entirely, definitely still exercise and train them to be strong. I just don’t for myself try to maximize growth in quads, hams, glutes since having those large makes you look overweight in clothes and will make you slower with less endurance in sports

I do however believe in maximizing every bit of calf growth one can get

I went through both phases. In soccer I always have big legs but they were lean and aesthetic. Then when I went the powerlifting training route they got huge. But I never felt they got to a point of being unaesthetic or annoying. Just finding jeans to fit, but then stretchy jeans got more popular so that helped.

I think it depends on you body type too. Big legs are for power. If you want aesthetics then yea, I'd go for the more athletic look. Everything fits better too haha.

Lmao. My quads were legitimately bigger than my powerlifting buddy who weighed 240 lb and squatted 550 and pulled ~650. He was on gear too.

And I only weighed 215 lb at the time (6'0 tall).

Yup. Big legs got annoying pretty fking quick when I started training MMA. There are a few MMA fighters with pretty big legs but they are def not the norm.

Big legs will look especially worse if you have proportionally short legs for your height.

Yup. Used to do dumb chit like squatting everyday working up to a daily max and doing a chit ton of volume with back off sets. Increased my squat by 50 lbs in a couple of months and destroyed my knee in the process Lol.

I'm 5'11" and very balanced for the upper and the lower. When I first started lifting, I squatted. I naturally have HUGE calves and big upper legs. I cannot look like chicken legs even with no leg workout. With squatting, my upper legs blew up and it just made me look stocky...shorter, lowered the asthenic's God already gave me at birth.

Leg workout is just swimming, running and jumping.

Very true. Probably why mine never looked bad. I'm all legs so it still looked athletic and not stumpy.

Yup same. My legs will never be small. I look at some dudes and my kneecap (bone) is 2x wider than theirs haha.

100%. You look at someone like Usain Bolt (apparently has 29-inch thigh) and he still looks athletic cause of his build.

Bodyweight lunges are king. Better for your back, plus you get plenty of gains on your legs without looking unnatural and unathletic.

Because if you have the lower body than it's easier to get the upper body, but if you don't have the lower body is it's harder build the upper body, cause you need the lower body before you get the upper body, if you don't lower body then you don't upper body, cause you need the lower body to get the upper body...

I wasnt shredded but I def wasn't fat. I wish I had my old pic saved so I could show you but I was known as the guy with the biggest quad + most insane quad separation among bodybuilders & powerlifters in my uni gym, lmao. Years of oly weightlifting + squat + my leg genetics made my leg blow the fk up Lol.

This is my legs after I completely stopped training legs for the past 5+ years (just some cardio every now and then). My legs used to be a lot bigger with wayy more definition during my oly lifting days.
