After lifting, do 10-15 minutes of high intensity cardio. This will exercise your heart, burn calories, increase your endurance, and work your legs. I like the stairmill at Level 9/20 for 10 minutes every day. The heart is a muscle. Get your heart rate up.

You could do everything with weights and diet.

Adding cardio can help a lot if you need to lose weight/fat in a certain time frame.

But, if you eat back your cardio calories then it's a complete waste of your time.

Having some cardio might make it easier on your lifestyle if you don't want to be spartan with your diet...just my 2 cents after losing a lot of weight.

I'm 47 and do no cardio, I hate it. For health reasons it's great, but for physique purposes you can get away with not doing it.

I don't do any cardio and am lean muscular athletic looking because I don't overeat, and my workouts are challenging.

However, it's questionable if I can run a mile without stopping. No doubt it's nowhere near what I was able to run/swim when I was younger and devoted a lot of time to running and swimming.

It's very good for you. For Performance, Health, and Recovery. And no, you cant just get the benefits from some short hiit workouts.

You should be spending time doing low intensity, longer duration cardio. Below your aerobic threshold, as that is where the magic happens.

hiit as a time and place, but it cant take the place of liss. They are both good, but are not the same.

and no , the reason runners and cyclers are skinny is because getting big is counterproducitive to their goals. If they lifted and ate to gain, they would gain.

Of course now I basically have an endless amount of energy.

This thread is on a bodybuilding forum, where most are lifting ,

First you state you should be doing long duration ,long lasting cardio

I point out how ,for most ,this going to be counterproductive

Then you state the reason cyclers and runners are skinny is because they aren't lifting and eating to gain

If you did enough long lasting cardio ,you would burn everything off ,regardless of how much you ate ,if you exceeded the calories in long lasting cardio ,it would be erased

Which is what ,in your first post ,you said, according to you, yiu should be doing

At this point I don't know wtf you are suggesting

I stated my case

For the maj here ,hiit is more beneficial

Carry on

and this thread is about cardio.

nothing i said clashed with another statement.

and no, you won't "burn everything off" if you do long duration, low intensity cardio lmao except in the most extreme scenarios and dont eat.

HIIT is NOT more beneficial for most, until you are trying to peak 8-12 weeks before competing in a race. The HIIT benefits stagnate quickly, then you regress. See "death by anaerobic threshold". It is important to spend time below your aerobic threshold. Whether or not you are lifting, which i obviously do.

and if hiit was just as good, endurance athletes would just do that instead of spending time below their aerobic threshold. Different Adaptations occur. Even an all out 800m is largely aerobic and should be trained by doing low intensity cardio to max out aerobic fitness before doing harder workouts.

Personally My physique got a boost from adding cardio, but that is probably because I've never counted calories. So cardio got me to a better baseline level of leanness. Improved nutrient partioning, better digestion etc.

Talking strictly aesthetics you could probably get away with not doing it if you're a diet nazi or more naturally lean.

The health benefits are undeniable though.
