Well you want to combine things. Socialism has a very bad rep in itself but in the end it's just paying taxes to keep less fortunate up and running. It's not communism. In a perfect system you give the less fortunate enough to stay on their feet while they recover and eventually leave the system of benefits to start spending their own money again.

Some people will always take advantage, but overall it is helpful.

Once you earn good money you'll pay a lot more relatively compared to others of course because the broadest shoulders support the most weight. In practice this is often counterbalanced through other means though. But still, it's something that will always be the reality of said system.

I mean, I despise socialist politicians who preach defending the common man but actually just build their wealth on the backs of working class people but socialism in itself has benefits for sure. You need a socialist system for things like universal healthcare but you need to strictly control and check it. It needs to be fair for everyone.

It's certainly not perfect the way it's being used in Europe, sometimes money is handed out too fast and too sloppily, but it does provide a humane backup plan for the less fortunate. It certainly helps a lot of people get back on their feet and rejoin society to start spending their own money again.
