Nobody has hobbies after 30

I've finally come to the conclusion that after 30 nobody has hobbies because they're too tired from work or raising kids

nah it's pretty easy to disprove... several people over 30 in this thread have hobbies.

Therefore 'nobody has hobbies after 30' is false.

Perhaps if he wants to post a more nuanced thread, actually detailing his hypothesis as to why (most which is what i assume he means - although i'd disagree here too but that's a different discussion) men don't have hobbies, he may get different responses. But whilst he wants to make brainless, sweeping generalizations like this he gets the responses he deserves.

also, boring is a matter of perspective and taste, and is not mutually exclusive with having hobbies. EG someone might collect stamps, and whilst you may find them boring they absolutely have a hobby. Perhaps people sense your judgement and don't share their hobbies with you personally because they think you'll deem them 'boring'.

I'm an avid musician. I love playing and composing music. I love sports like soccer, surfing, I still go to the gym, I constantly read books, I travel a lot just to see a new location, I've known how to hunt/camp for over a year now, I want to get into painting, I want to write a book...


People over 30 and without hobbies are either poorly managing their time, or misplacing their priorities, or both.

No people have hobbies, but it's mostly dumb activities they involve themselves with rather than following a passion.

Guy plays guitar so he can tell people he plays guitar. Try to talk to him about music or any sort of guitar rig setup specs and he has nothing to talk about.
Woman loves to go hiking so she can put #GetOutThere on her dating profile. Ask her where she hikes or some of her favorite bits of scenery and she won't have much to say beyond 2 sentences.

Everything is so shallow and vacuous to most people they are just going through the motions of life rather than looking for anything that invigorates them.

Well like i said, if OP had laid out an actual hypothesis then maybe we'd have discussion instead of just claiming no men over 30 have hobbies (which he does to make himself feel better about his existence). Let's face it, this thread is borne out of OP's insecurities regarding himself, and projecting that onto everyone else and making it someone elses fault (i.e arguing it's a societal level phenomena) makes him feel better than taking personal responsibility.

and honestly, from my experience if you talk to people enough you'll find out most people have hobbies, even if you may find them boring. I would argue as above that perhaps hobbies in the modern age are borne of shallow drives often, but i actually see people doing more stuff than ever. Perhaps the US is different in that respect but i'd be surprised. Huge amounts of men over 30 gyming, foraging (allotments are a big thing here), playing golf semi regularly, modding cars, playing airsoft, playing video games, training bjj etc..

Ill be 37 in November.

Currently have a 72 skylark in my garage, that I've dropped $4k into for suspension, rims, tires and some interior stuff in the last 8 months....next on the list is to change the rear gear and see if it peps up that tired 455 Big Block any and if not, I will be swapping in a heads/cam 6.0 LS and a T56 along with some racing seats and a 4pt cage

I'm also in the process of completely re-doing our .6 acre backyard.....a few paver walkways, flower beds, dedicated firepit area and a 10' stock tank pool with a 9'x18' deck.

I also build/refinish furniture.

I also manage to make it to the golf course 2-3x/month.

I also work 50-55 hours a week....from home.

If you have no hobbies it's because you're either boring or poor. Just gotta keep moving man.....I do not understand how people just sit on the couch and watch tv for more than 30 mins/day.

The car and golf community is a very very small percentage breh. Most people couldn't change a tire and have terrible golf form. Hell even the gym is a small percentage seeing as so many folks are obese. Like I said, we won't talk about 'boring'. Most folks are living day to day with work and family and some vacations inbetween.

Bodybuilding translate to being active in other parts of your life. So I'm not surprised the guys here do things.

I want to get my LS1 once it hits a certain mileage bored out a bit, stroked, cammed and better flowing heads. More NA horsepower before we add a blower to it.

I think this is your parochial view , or perhaps you just don't talk to people much and assume they have nothing going on.

I listed a bunch of hobbies, it depends what you define as a hobby but you'll see people doing these everywhere and all the time. It also really depends on what you define as a hobby. Is playing video games a hobby? is reading a hobby? Is watching sport a hobby (not that i count it as one, but it could be counted as one and the majority of men watch some kind of sport). it's really not clear what OP means by 'hobbies' because, again, he hasn't provided any hypothesis or attempted to clarify what he's trying to say in any capacity at all.

Also, i'm not claiming all men have hobbies, but i'm claiming it's not some rare phenomena as you/the op seem to imply.
You're not really providing anything to debate just making matter-of-fact assertions (i'm no criticizing this it just seems kind of useless to debate unless theres some data points we can use) so i guess we'll just agree to disagree. Likewise....a guitar player/song writer for over 4 decades.
For some reason I've never liked the word 'hobby'.

But....although I'm married I did not want kids....ever....non-negotiable.
I made that personal edictvery clearduring our early dating days.
I prefer the simple, quiet life with a woman of like mind.

My home life was less than appealing having an alcoholic father and emotionally cold mother.
I still write/record to this day and working on a new one as we speak.

Raising a family is no easy task.
Your life is not your own anymore....it's all about raising one's kids, being involved with their lives and grooming them to be a respectable, clear thinking adults.
It's a huuuuge lifetime responsibility and no easy task, I'm sure.
My respect to all those that succeed with the challenges.

I got into the Nascar Racing franchise (made by same company) back when Logitech made the cheaper wheels with only enough degrees of steering to nearly turn the wheel upsidedown. The graphics were great but the physics were amazing. I can't imagine playing it with one of today's $300 wheels and a gearbox + clutch. 🤌
