How long till you can upload your brains data into a computer or robot?

You'd be immortal and just live in a virtual world as a virtual character or something. Either that or your brain data gets inputed into a robot when youre born or before you die.

Brb no cancer, no diesese, no need to eat or drink. People will one day LOL at the idea of having your brain connected with the physical weak body you were born in. Only poor people wont be able to afford the brain switch.

People around you will assure you that it's legit and you are you still you but there's no way to know if the people who make the switch are just robotic copies of their former selves and different people. There's a chance you never wake up and your new robotic self is actually has your memories but isn't you. What Do? I personally would make the switch around age 60

Bet it will happen in the 500 years. srs we were all born just a couple generations too early.

Hard to know, it relies on consciousness being substrate independent, which is not exactly a 100% established fact.

Sentience and consciousness is all just matter of neurons/brain wiring.

It's why people who get into accidents have different personalities after and don't remember stuff. Just a matter of brain wiring

Biological neurons will be seen as an outdated and archaic form onsciousness compared to what we'll eventually be able to build. There will be a period where transhumanism means both augmented biological or non-biological minds, but in the long run biology will be seen as obsolete. .

Science will figure it out in the next couple hundred years. There's already been an exponential growth in technology due to computers. Mark my words

When you die you wake up on an operating table and your whole “VR Life” was only actually 1 hour in real world time.

i never claimed it wasn't, i said it's not an established fact. Whilst integration information theory is the leading idea currently, it still falls short in many areas. Not only that, there's also the question on IF consciousness is substrate independent, then what happens if you 'move' it to a new substrate. Is that a new instantiation of the same consciousness? How would you even tell since memory and experience is encoded in neuronal structure? Anyone 'waking up' on silicone substrate would think it's a continuation of the same consciousness due to the memories and experience, but it's not obvious that it's actually the case. By the mere act of 'moving' to a new substrate, you could be killing yourself and effectively making a clone of your brain, rather than extending your own consciousness. The simple fact is despite our technological progress, we're still largely ignorant on many facts surrounding consciousness, especially the binding problem (although there are quantum proposals for a solution) and the entire phenomena of quale

but glad to know you've solved it, time to collect your Nobel.
