I used a nail gun for the first time today

I'm helping to restore an old community hall. We've already replaced the walls, today I did the window and door trims and some molding around the place



Rumor has it, it was an old army barracks. More recently it was the local RSA (returned services association), before becoming a community hall.

It probably looked something like this back in the day

Nice, nail guns are a lot of fun, way better than smashing my hand at least once every time I use a hammer.

Das it mane. Nothing quite like building something and seeing the fruits of your labor everyday.

Although I would recommend to just use a hammer. With a nail gun, you don't get a feel for what you are nailing down.

It was fun, I think it ran on gas and a battery but wasn't heavy or awkard or anything.

That's the problem with using alot of fancy tools nowadays. They don't give you that hands on feeling of what you are building. Its just speed speed speed.

With nail guns, yes, the job gets done faster, but its not as accurate as using a hammer to nail down every nail. Using a hammer gives you precise feel for the nail. You build this mental feel of how strong your nails are. Speed won't give you a quality build, and if the build is to last for a long time, spending an extra hour to go slower is well worth the investment.

Idk brah, this is my first time using one and my work was pretty clean. I guess it depends more on the operator, and using the right tool for the right job.

I've seen plenty of rough hammering too, if you miss the nail and hit the wood. Or bend the nail.

his train of thought is for the garage DIY'er with no dead lines to meet.

not to mention your going to have a lot more patch work to do with a hammer

Im just saying in general hand built things are going to be more accurate and gives the builder a mental map of thing being built for a fraction of the cost.

And as you can see with the nail gun, you have to buy the gun, buy the compressor hoses, buy the compressor etc. the setup isn't very cheap vs just a simple hammer.
