What’s up with these new nasa images?
They look fake as hell. How do you even get away with calling these photos? They look straight up photoshopped/ computer generated. Not really impressive if you ask me

A space telescope works a lot different than a cellphone camera bruh. Of course the images themselves are computer generated, doesn't mean the data they're based on is fake or the image isn't somewhat representative.

That's because they are. Even all the pictures of earth are called images not photos.
The definition of Image:
1.a representation of the external form of a person or thing in art.
2.the general impression that a person, organization, or product presents to the public.
It's not the real thing. They are very deliberate with their language hence all news stories and everything talking about it calls it "image" and almost never photos or pictures.
The best part is you can never check their work because these are billion dollar telescopes so you just have to trust them and believe them and never question anything they put out because you'll be shamed for not blindly believing it.

You do realize that any space image is color altered. If they showed us the actual photos it wouldn't look much like anything and would be very unappealing.

They aren't fake, just enhanced.
Colors that your eyes see is literally just energy (light) that your brain interprets as a color. Humans can only "see" a tiny fraction of the energy spectrum.
These photos consist of energy (light) that is invisible to human eyes, but detectable by the telescope. Most notably Infared light, which can penetrate the insanely vast gas clouds in space, allowing us to see behind/inside them. These different energy/ light wavelengths are combined into a single photo with enhanced colors so when astronomy nerds look at them, they can study the energies coming from the object. And even determine the chemical composition of them.
Edit: Many of these objects can be seen from your back yard, assuming you live far enough from a city, and have a $2k+ telescope. No they wont nearly be that detailed or have any real color. But you would be able tell it is real.

They webb telescope sees in infared. We dont.
It takes composite pics and they use software to make images we can see and understand. Technically thats what the things would look like but the coloring has been enhanced and added. They also play with the colors to see different gasses and the like.
They dont just take pictures because they are neat to look at. They take them for research and science.

"To be a warrior is not a simple matter of wishing to be one. It is rather an endless struggle that will go on to the very last moment of our lives. Nobody is born a warrior, in exactly the same way that nobody is born an average man. We make ourselves into one or the other."-- Carlos Castaneda
