Imagine being so retarded to put Far Cry 6 in the same rank as H:FW graphics lmfaoooooo ... fukkin miscers I swear. I've played and seen both games irl on my oled and far cry 6 is NOTHING compared to H: FW ... In graphics, gameplay or even writing, it's just a chit crappy game that's only fun for about 5 hours but not surprised EOD is fapping to it ... "so photorealistic" lmao.

As for the question, the game is great. One of the best looking games out there rn, a marked improvement in terms of atmosphere, writing, presentation and locations.

My only negatives for Horizon is the fact that the open world is still the same as other open worlds, the mission structures, the quest designs are samey.

The combat while being excellent, is far too clunky imo. The machines are over-animated where I personally found it incredibly annoying and hard to make accurate shots to take out specific enemy parts because they're like seizure patients on steroids and move around so much.

Still, it's a ton better than most of the other open games out there, but it doesn't really do anything innovative or bring the genre forward in a meaningful way .. Perhaps because it's still constrained by current gen limitations. I'm just bored by open worlds in general now.

^ I have to agree with you. Graphic wise, FC6 wasnt even in the ballpark of Horizon. And I saw enough of it, to the point where my friend got that ridiculous pet. Then I realised it was just a goofy game that's not really trying too hard to do anything.

I also agree with your complaints about horizon. The enemies are indeed harder to hit due to their movements, however I welcomed that change because weapons and abilities were strong in the game. My first run was on very hard and I completed it pretty smoothly. Even on ultra hard it really wasn't that difficult to dispatch enemies. I didn't have major issues landing shots.... Except for the final enemies you fight in the game which are extremely fast.

The open world aspects that do the samey things.... Meet people, they give you quests which play out in little mini stories. Finding collectibles through the map, uncovering secrets and ancient tech etc. I am completely fine with that formula for this game and I would have been upset if they took it too far out of the norm.

Most people, including myself, who want a sequel... Usually just want the same formula but better. I'm not one of those people who get disappointed when a game, esp a sequel to a well loved game, doesn't reinvent the wheel.

I platinumed the first game and thought it was absolutely superb. I already knew I was going to play Elden Ring first so I am just now getting around to HFW.

Has the same painfully slow start as HZD did, I have two bros who stopped playing the first one because of how slowly it gets going.

I JUST finally arrived at the forbidden West, and it seems (and I have read) that the story will now start moving. That was a weakness of the first one so it's a shame to see it back again here, but I understand they need to get the pieces on the board before the story kicks off.

The "more of everything" sequel approach is in full effect - once I grasp all the main mechanics I'm going to turn off the tooltips. Having five popup suggestions and three comments by Aloy per battle is overkill. I get it, there are a lot of ways I can approach each encounter.

That said, minor quibbles of some of the best combat, graphics, story beats and open world design in gaming. Anyone who says otherwise either doesn't like these games or is a console war soldier lol.

Most sequels are iteration, not innovation. Not that there's anything wrong with that, it's more of that thing you like.

I never understand those complaints either bro. Did you think the sequel was going to be a match 3 puzzle game?

Yeah fully agree. Imagine if they had tried to fully reinvent the wheel for this game. Would make me rage really hard. Has to be my fave game since Witcher 3 and it still makes me sad I'm done with the story. I will definitely do a third run before the end of the year, maybe sooner than I think. Heartbreaking there's no more adventures to go on till the DLC. I posted this in the ps5 thread but all the settings in customization can be confusing at first. These few are must haves imo to really improve your gameplay quality:

So you don't destroy your controller :
Settings> Controls > auto sprint on foot = on

The default is to click your L3 button to run but that can damage your controller and its just tiring to do every time.

Settings>General> Pickup animations = off

Self explanatory

Settings>General>Difficulty>Custom>Easy loot = on
Extremely helpful if you don't want to spend hours trying to shoot off specific components for upgrades

And most importantly:

Settings>General>HUD Visibility>Custom HUD settings>Interaction Markers= Always on.

This puts a tiny marker over all collectibles within sight. If this isn't enabled you will miss a fuk ton of loot and will make the game a pain in the angus

Resurrecting thread from the dead.

Haven't had time to game much lately, this weekend I had a big old session. I finished the first of the 3 missions where you-know-who lets you choose from three tasks to work on for the base, and I also managed to get all upgrades to all resource bags (something I like to rush during open world games).

I am going to start picking up side missions as I go - the quality is a LOT higher than the first game and I notice they do a good job in getting you to visit the places on the map you don't visit on the main story's golden path.

The world you play in mogs every other open world game in existence. Avoid the PS4/PS5 megathread, we put a lot of spoiler tags but some stuff is still visible

I've got the ranged skill tree maxed (except weapon skills) and the important skills in the medicine/potion tree.

Thinking about putting future points toward the longer machine overrides since this game lets you override some stronger machines. Plus I don't really use traps or stealth. Thoughts?

There are enough skill points in the game to max every tree so it doesn't matter too much. Depends on the difficulty you play at. For very hard mode I did the same with ranged weapons, then invested survivor tree because I felt weak in the early game. Overrides was the last tree I upgraded, didn't end up overriding many machines tbh prefer to fight them. Trapper is good because the valor surge boosts duration and damage of elemental types (acid, fire etc)
