*Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society) and Charlie Benante (Anthrax) are going to be touring with Phil and Rex as "Pantera" next year.

Zakk will have to change his style tremendously, I don't want the original guitar parts drenched in wah and chorus effects with pinched harmonics every 3rd note.

zakk is hsi best friend and what dime would've wanted. You be happier with Nita Strauss or some guy from maroon 5?

as for pantera. imagine if ac/dc and metallica quit after their biggest band member died.

did you know Iron Maiden is a tribute and doesn't include their original singer? Rex and Phil put a lot of effort into Pantera, they have the right and even have blessing of vine/dime's families.

Both remaining living members of Pantera are part of the tour, what's the issue?

Pantera got me through so many workouts, that i will always hold them in high regard no matter what they decide to do. Legendary band.

Pantera didn't quit because someone died... The Abbots and Phil had a huge rift between them and they NEVER even wanted to reconcile with him. This wouldn't have happened while they were alive, and it feels like an end run around their wishes.

Blessing of the family = ok with cashing in on a dead relative's legacy. They didn't even let him attend dime's funeral.

I hope I'm mistaken, and his family really just want their music to live on, but I don't think any of the examples you gave apply.

I went to anselmos concert when he was playing pantera with the illegals. pretty awesome but Im more of a fan of his "side projects" so it kinda sucks Ill only get to hear the pantera hits again.

but I dont see anything wrong with it, why not play for the fans? theres a generation of people that werent even alive when pantera broke up, I dont see the problem

If James and Lars died, that'd be it for Metallica. Most bands can go on if they're main song writer is still present, like the examples you posted. These years a good deal of metal bands are going strong with *just* their main guitarist/songwriter, which Pantera doesn't have.
Virtue is its own reward.

I think Zakk Wylde is an overall better musician than Dimebag was, but Zakk's problem are his horrible solos.. Just the most generic wankery with pinch harmonics over the pentatonic, I was writing better solos than him when I was 13 srs

But he has some really good songs


Also other than cemetery gates and a few cool riffs, Dimebag was overrated as fuk..
