Michael Mann Confirms His ‘Heat’ Sequel Is Already Underway

https://theplaylist.net/michael-mann...ovie-20220719/
We are on the verge of Michael Mann releasing his highly-anticipated “Heat” follow-up novel. And, as you might expect, discussion about the “Heat” prequel/sequel novel brings up questions about a possible film, which Mann has already expressed interest in previously. In a new interview on the WTF Podcast with Marc Maron, the filmmaker teased that development on another “Heat” film, based on the novel, is already underway.
“This is a book, but it’s also going to be a very large movie,” teased Mann.

“It’s going to be a movie?” Maron asked, somewhat incredulously. “Oh yeah,” Mann replied, emphatically.

When asked if work on the film was already underway, Mann replied, “Yes, I can’t talk about it, but yes.”
“I always wanted to explore the early lives of these guys,” Mann said. “Also, to find a way to bring the past into the present and thepresent being about 2002, seven years after the events of ‘Heat’ the movie.”
'Collateral' came out in 2004. Could we see a return of Vincent? Neil McCauley said he 'has a brother somewhere.'

I'm leery of sequels but if it has the same energy as Top Gun 2 in terms of nostalgia and excellent story then I'm all for it.

WTF? No one wants to see Al Pacino, Val Kilmer, or Robert Deniro in anything ever again. Put them out to pasture, they had their day in the sun.

Original was good, but not great-not good enough to have a sequel.

Heat is pretty much a remake of a show LA Takedown and other ideas he had.

Lol. Pacino and De Niro had money days in the sun but agree.

When was the last even 6/10 performance they put in? 20 years probably.

Lol you may want to reevaluate that statement.

Heat is pretty much a top 10 all time movie.

This.

They're cooked.
Survival. When the jungle tears itself down and builds itself into something new. Guys like you and me, we end up dead. Doesn’t really mean anything. Or, if we happen to live through it, well that doesn’t mean anything either.

That movie is legendary and impossible to follow, but if Michael Mann is confident enough to do a sequel to his magnum opus I have faith. He has never done a sequel to any of his movies.

Maybe he'll pull James Cameron with T2

Already got Heat 2 pre-ordered on Audible. Think it's due late August. Not sure if a film sequel would work though. Maybe a decade ago.

Heat and Collateral were both great but I question if Michael Mann still has it.

Miami Vice and Public Enemies were both pretty meh, and Blackhat was dogchit. And that's all he's done in like the past 20 years.
I call it "Celebration". It's sexual, and violent...

Fukk yes. Heat is one of my favorite films of all time. This could go wrong. But it could also be awesome. Vince in the Heat universe? Why not. Yes, some of his movies like Public Enemies and Blackhat weren't good, but I actually liked Miami Vice. There isn't a lot of films I look forward to these days but this would get my ass in the theater.

He did a crime drama series called Luck that was pretty good - they had to cancel it though because some horses died during filming. He also recently did Tokyo Vice...I haven't seen every episode but it was ok

Nope-it was a very good film, but hardly a classic. DeNiro & Pacino have both been in many far superior films.
