I used to watch "TheFlightChannel" but after watching Mentour Pilot it is hard to compete.

TFC just has text dialogue that describes the event-by-event situation of flight disasters with MS flight simulator to reenact. Still entertaining, just different style and I think I prefer Mentour pilot now.

No aviation disaster is more impressive than UA Flight 232.

A DC-10 lost ALL of their hydraulics when the tail engine exploded and shrapnel cut all 3 independent hydraulic lines. The odds of a triple redundant system all failing are like 1 in a billion or something crazy like that. That means the pilots had no elevator, no rudder, no ailerons, etc. all they had control of were the engine thrusts on both wings since the tail engine shut down.

There was a DC-10 instructor named Denny Fitch who went into the cock pit to offer help. He took control of the throttles because he could sit in between the pilots and it was easier for one person to control the alternating thrusters to turn the plane. The plane always wanted to turn right for some reason so they had to do circle after circle as they were decending uncontrollably. By some miracle they made the runway but the right wing dipped and the plane cartwheeled, killing like 150 out of 300 passengers but just the fact that there were ANY survivors was incredible.

They had pilots try to land the plane in the simulator and it took them 29 tries to even get a crash landing with any survivors. The pilots on the airplane only had 1 chance…

To this day I find that to be one of the most amazing stories I’ve ever heard.
