Airline pilot vlogs ITT

I've always been curious what a regional vs major pilot looks like. The differences are vast I'm aware, but the lifestyle change between the 2 is pretty crazy.

A First Officer at a regional (I think he's at a Regional at least) based in CLT (Charlotte).. Lots of little short trips to different destinations to NY or even DFW or MIA

A new Captain at a Major.. Works Reserve at EWR (Newark), but his home base is in MN. He takes an international trip to London, heads back then is basically off for 6 days.

I knew a very senior (#3) Fed Ex pilot who flew 9 days a month heavy long haul international and made $300k a year.

Maybe im wrong, but Air tradies are probably cream of the crop career wise, up there with Doctors.

There's not many careers that MOG as hard as a Commercial pilot when it comes to getting sloots.

This is true, but pilots can get plenty of sex with attractive ladies. It's not hard to get laid when you're staying in hotels all the time and can go hang at the bars with other single traveling ladies.

Regional is hell if you ask when you first start. 6+ leg days. Seniority get all of the good schedules first. If you're green it blows but if you stick to it and work your way up it gets better, as with most any job out there. There are two ways to get into the big lines, either run cargo or regional.

OK....ask him about all of the sht he had to do to get there. It's easy to view someone's now position and say hey that looks great and doesn't seem to hard. Out of a company of 1,000's there's only 1 number 1,2,3 and they get paid well because they dealt with a lot more than you think to get there. But that's ok, go spend a hundred + K and get licensed and I expect to see you at the head of an airline in 15 years, kthnxbye.

This is very true lol. A lot of these dudes had to really push through some chitty schedules.. chitty turnarounds.. chitty seniority, to finally get ratings on certain aircrafts and make it to a major and get those international hauls with $$$$ and some extra days off.

Aviation industry is all about seniority.

Would still be baller to make it to that level though especially since the hefty pay raise one carrier (possibly American Eagle) is getting. Seems like another regional got one as well.

That said, am still slated to go off to controller school (thank you USAF). No date yet as I hear they are backlogged.
Have absolutely no clue how any of that process works. I wanted to get into something similiar when I was younger but would never have been able to afford it. I remember you tho, we talked a lil about you joining the AF and I thought you worked some sort of dispatch or something in a tower I was familiar with?

Good luck in controller school and remember.... you're gonna make mistakes, but to not let one mistake overwhelm you or think about it through an entire session. This is without a doubt the #1 reason people who can do this job, end up failing out of it.

that guy (1st one) is at mainline now.

He gets a lot of hate by other pilots for criticizing how a crew handled an emergency btw.

That, is deserved, but a lot of others are jelly cause hes making money vlogging

You're correct. To my knowledge there is no real upfront benefit to united or Americans "academy". ITs all the same crap as other programs

Which emergency was he criticizing? Also that part doesn't surprise me that they would be upset and jelly about the extra $$.

You should start a vlog for the misc lol. Also gonna need you to give me that callsign when you fly next few days so I can look it up your flight plan when I work next few days and if I'll ever talk to you.

From everything I've read on Reddit, those programs aren't worth it. If you ask me they're on par with devry

Your mom and pop flight schools always win when it comes to price and getting flight hours. I'd definitely enroll into a school but most aren't good in any way.

So are bachelor's degrees essential to getting into the Majors? That's the only thing holding me back. Maybe I'll enroll and take 15 credits a semester with some summer courses and knock it out in 2 years.

Gonna talk to a counselor.

I think southwest had an engine fall out of the sky in Colorado or something like that a year or so ago. I'm doing a quick turn but when I have a real 3-4day trip Ill send you some info. I was definitely in your airspace when I flew cessnas.

Depends on the type of student you are. Some of those programs cost extra $$$, but are extremely structured. I needed that personally, and don't regret the program I joined.

Essential? no. They help, but are no longer a requirement or majority of the major airlines. That's the state of the airlines right now. Ask me again in 5-8 years. I would get your ratings/licenses and time ASAP if you're interested.

What is going to help most, is going to the airlines "Meet The Chiefs" events or other organization events, and meet the recruiters face to face. That is what's getting people hired faster than anything.

I have my own personal training but none provided by my airline. There are procedures, but not self defense

There is a program that allows us to be armed in the cockpit though. I plan on participating, it honestly slipped my mind, so I appreciate this reminder

I don't know, i was looking at this flight school in Arizone, but heard too many bad things about those programs. Not to mention getting hired isnt a guarantee. Mom and pop can get you through just as fast. This is just what I've read. What school did you go through and how long did it take? How was the classes structured?

I'm gonna look up those events btw.
