Why the FUKK are sectional sofas so expensive?

Went to a few furniture stores yesterday, good comfortable sectionals are like $7k-10k. When the fukk did this happen?

And no don't suggest I shop at poverty Ikea or Ashley.

They can last forever though when you get into that range, paid like $9k for mine five years ago and the leather has aged so well

Went to Havertys, Ethan Allen, and Crate and Barrel. Liked H and CB, hated EA, all the EA sofas looked so stuffy/formal like something that would be under a plastic cover at a grandma's house.

Bought my 3 piece sectional for like $2.5k at Nebraska Furniture Mart. Probably same quality as Ashley furniture, but to me that’s pretty good quality.

Stuff I’ve bought from there has lasted years.

The thing about quality furniture is that it can last decades. The initial investment sucks, as it can be super expensive. But it's not really an expense you should really have to worry about making often, unless you purchase sh!tty furniture that falls apart. (Ded fkn Srs)

Just bought a genuine leather couch and loveseat, off FB marketplace for $1200 in immaculate condition. New from Bob's furniture it is $2500 per piece. Retired couple downsizing to a condo. Deals are out there but we had been looking for an entire year. There's no way we'd spend 5k+ on a couch/loveseat even though we can afford it.

It was the Titan from Bob's furniture. I would really consider checking them out. Their **** is well made and comfortable. They're in most states.

my couch was $700. the stuffing is all smooshed to hell after several moves. Its like 10 years old now and I need a new one.


Still 10 years for $700 is better than 5k for some alleged forever sofa. you really going to have it 20 years from now? you'd have to pass it on to your grand kids to even break even on my cheap value sofa.

Buying something quality that lasts longer has other advantages that you may or may not care about, like supporting the companies/people who make quality chit and not buying into disposable consumerism where you can get 10 cheaper sofas for the price of 1 good sofa but then 9 of those cheaper sofas end up in landfills in the same time frame

Significantly cheaper furniture is also very possibly from Asian countries dumping their stuff into our markets as their governments subsidize the manufacturers, chit has a negative impact on our domestic companies and Canada had recently imposed duties on China and Vietnam for this

Get away from the catalog/mall brands and go to a local furniture store. Find a mid to upper tier brand made in America and you will get twice the couch for less or same price as what you are looking at.

No idea why, but they've always been stupid expensive. I remember working the stockroom at Restoration Hardware part time in college. That place is relatively high end expensive to begin with, but you could basically choose between a sectional or a car for the same price.

What kind of **** are people doing that wears down furniture in anything less than 20 years

I've always just bought furniture from random department stores and I've only ever gotten rid of something because it was too dated in style, but they were always completely fine with nothing an extractor couldn't fix

Depends on brand and construction. Hardwood frame with down and premium filling are going to be expensive. If it's hands made then even more.

Materials are the difference between it lasting 5 years versus 25 years.

Different grades of leather have a big impact too, full grain and top grain age really well but you pay a lot more for them

I Have this couch but with a "snuggler" instead of chaise ours is more blue/grey.

Also, shop around once you find a couch/manufacturer. I remember while shopping for our theater seating couch, we found one we liked but it was like $12k. Our interior designer found a local store who got us the identical units for 7k.
