At 5'5 you are shorter than 93% of the population. I think it's highly unlikely he just so happened to be standing with a bunch of people who just all happened to be considerably shorter than average, statistically it just doesn't make sense and the odds of this happening would be like 0.0002%. It's more probable he was standing with a bunch of people who were of average height, making him 6'2 or 6'3.
