Washer and dryer set
Today our washing machine stop recognizing that the door is shut so it will not run a cycle. We've been wanting to replace both the washer and dryer, anyway, so we're just gonna go ahead and do that. Any of you bros have any recommendations?
Smart appliances seem like a good idea but I dunno, it seems more time is spent on the smart features and less on the actual utility you're purchasing.
I don't want something cheap. Want to spend at least $2k up to $5k.
Any suggestions based on your personal experience? Reps until I'm out for solid answers.
Thanks.
Edit: electric dryer fyi

Basic front loading Whirlpool with pedestals. Seriously.
Do not buy the high tech stuff. We bought a $3000 Samsung set from Costco and all the "AI" and "energy efficiency" features just meant it shut it self off before anything was dry, and you couldn't override it. lol

Spent extra for a dryer with a steam function which will iron your shirt in 2 min if you're lazy. Used it twice in a year so added failure pints are cool

I think Maytags are the best. Have never had any issues out of them.
This is what I have.

And have the matching dryer that runs on gas.

I'm gonna go buy something tomorrow. Wondering if anyone has experience that can steer me away from something that looks great but is trash. See Linux' post, that's useful info.

We’ve been running Whirlpool for both since 2015 and they have been solid, haven’t needed any repairs and I’ve taken the filter out of the bottom of the washer once to clean it
Biggest issue is the door on the washing machine will leak a tiny bit sometimes but I think that’s not uncommon with front loaders
When I was doing research back in 2015, Whirlpool seemed the best and Samsung seemed the worst for washers and dryers

Speed Queen if you want something that will last. They are more expensive.
The insides of most appliances now are plastic junk.
Pretty comprehensive; watched it a few weeks back:
I even took notes and emailed them to myself.

That's how they coined the phrase "Scratch and dent". My parents got an LG washer and dryer set at a 20% discount by shopping through scratch and dent.
And I'm not talking about old or obviously overused stuff, I literally mean like new stuff that's on sale due to the cosmetic damage. YMMV, but there are deals to be found if you really want to save and are willing to look.

So i just had the GE guy come last week only to tell me that the 10 year old unit needs a new computer and they don't make them, so my research began.
here are the cliffs
1. lg and samsung are the least reliable according to the parts store( tribbles) that sells parts to repair companies.
He laughed out loud when i said consumer guides are suggesting the 2 brands.
2. a survey of 5k repair professionals said to buy whirlpool and maytag in that order, #1/#2
3. measure your space first and compare prices, most have a 10 year warranty (planned obsolescence)
4. costco has nice units for the 500, 900, and over 1,000 price point, but Lowes has commercial units (tough parts) and 700, 800, 900 and higher priced units.
good luck

I have a Whirlpool Cabrio 5.3 Cu. Ft. washer and matching dryer. It sucks! Despite having a large inside, you can’t wash a lot of clothes at one time because it does a terrible job at washing.
It’s only 4 years old and it no longer runs a cleaning cycle and has a water leak off n on inside the drum at one point.
The washer is utter crap, but the dryer works fine.

I dont see why one would need a washer and dryer connected to the internet. You know it will be a pain in the ass and the only time you will use the features is when you first get it. Too much stuff can go wrong.
The old stand bys work great and have fewer failure points.

One thing Op, if you have a wife/girlfriend using it, go look at them in person. My washer is really tall and I have to stand on my tiptoes and lean in to get the clothes off the bottom of the washer. My daughter is so short she can’t use the washer since it’s a danger she would fall in.
