can any misc tradies or DIYers help me with this wiring?
Installed a new bathroom exhaust fan. I have a 12/2 coming from the wall, but the wiring diagram is confusing af

I only care about hooking up the fan (no light or heater connections needed). this is my attempt:

there's a black and white wire coming from the black outlet, so I hooked that up to my house wiring and connected ground. doesn't work when I turn it on.
the wires are also different - solid vs threaded

can I just pinch/spiral them together and put a cap on it? OR do I need the wires to go through the 20 amp circuit like in the wire diagram
My first time playing with wiring tbh so I have no clue what I'm doing and might have to call the electrical tradie on monday.

I don’t know jack chit about electrical, but I thought most overhead wiring is 14/2 and outlets were 12/2.

Isn't most of that internal to the device and you don't need to worry about them? The 120 VAC line in would be where it is hooked up. But instructions should be followed.

i was in my attic for so long installing mine because i had to build like a frame for it
fkn sucked
the closest i got on wiring was that flipping both switches on will turn on the light it has plus the fan but i wasn't able to figure out how to only turn on its light
hopefully you got a powermaxxed 130cfm one hehe

Should just need the black, white and ground. Is there multiple wiring option diagrams? That looks its geared for tapping into a switched outlet.
I guess the question is, does it work as wired?

no, basically everything in the picture is what it came with. the fan component just screws in and plugs into black outlet.

I looked at this last night and thought I would be able to understand it better today.
I can't really tell by your picture what all is going on.
A real rough guess is that the red and white wire together doesn't look right, but again I can't really tell which wire is coming from where. I believe the red should be a traveler live wire and would possibly go to a black or blue instead.
I noticed you have a blue wire and it looks like the diagram they gave you shows connecting a blue to a red.
Edit: I like those wago connectors but I would still recommend putting a little electrical tape on them so the doors don't pop open

you could follow that diagram 100% and still be wrong. unless youre at new construction the guy who wired it before you could have done some different chit
power from the bottom half of outlet - black to your vent
all of your whites are neutrals and should stay together
you have another black wire that's hot - that's not from your outlet that is supplying power to your light
blue from your outlet (another source of power) goes to red to the other side of your light
all your greens stay together
what i dont understand is where the heat gets power from in that diagram
the black goes up to red but i dont understand where the red is getting power from. looks like a transformer possibly
is there a red and white kinda pre installed wire coming from the transformer?
also, 12 and 14 gauge shouldn't mix. you might be able to get by but 12 should be on a 20 amp breaker. it def. shouldn't if its on a 15

i do know what im doing. if you follow the black line from heat, it goes up to red. i can't tell where the red is coming from. it looks like a wire nut, but shouldn't be with the neutrals going with the hots. so seems like two lil dedicated spots, perhaps a red wire dangling and a white wire dangling. im thinking the transformer has that
if that's the case then black from the vent connects to red and the neutrals should stay separate

On one of your pics you’ve got the red from the fan (which is supposed to connected to the hot wire I believe , typically black ) going to white (typically the neutral ).
I say typically ,as without a volt meter you won’t know for sure .

some major fukery
thats why i was laying out just what he should do. but if he doesn't know what hot/ ground are
op you should def. call a tradie
edit: nvm. that ground is dark green. but yea white and red shouldn't be together

Haven’t heard from OP today. Likely deaded/fried from playing with wires. All you wanted was a fan to cleanse the air of your chit clouds, but now you’re in the clouds yourself.

What's confusing is the switch they are using
If you only want the fan then you only need a reg switch
The switch will have black and white top and bottom
The green is ground ,they all get nutted together
The whites all get nutted together
One coming from switch ,and two feeds in unit
Now your only concern is the black for the vent ,it's coming from the right feed of unit
Wlnut that to the black from switch
Cap off the red and black left over since you're not using them
Rep me if I'm right
I'm not an electrician, but I've done enough of it
This is just a simple process of elimination

Im assuming everything in the unit is already wired and you have leads coming out of it right ?
Cuz in that diagram ,there's one black wire coming from right side into switch box
But look at the other end in. The unit
There's two black
So ,one black disappeared
Lol, diagram is fkd up

Unless it's just grounded to box at same location
I dunno ,whole diagram is chinese
Do what I said in first post
Shouldn't be hard to get it working
But yeah ,cap off reds ,period, you're not using it

but that little unit to the left of the junction is a switch? maybe a smart switch or something?
the power going into that junction goes to the light, then the red from the outlet (connected to the blue) might be switched from the outlet
that little unit to the left doesn't seem like a normal switch
anyways, i agree the diagram is a little vauge
the only 2 places for what he's installing to get power are from the outlet or that 120v line coming in to the junction box

Bottom of diagram
If op is supposed to wire the unit himself then the left feed isn't even needed
If you're going to use all three ,then you need a triple switch
It would have three buttons
For just the fan,it's a simple normal switch like you have for a light
