Reconciling with a friend after an argument - is it ever the same?

One of my best friends and I had an argument over something lame.

Because we moved away for our individual jobs, we didn't speak for almost a year.

Luckily, neither one of us carry grudges so when I called him after his daughter was born, it was like nothing ever happened. My gf and I went for the weekend to visit and see his beautiful little girl and everything was great.

I've seen some friends never reconcile after arguments. What's your story?

My friend and I strongly disagree on politics. He's a Trumper and I'm not. But we are still friends. Sometimes, we discuss politics, but we usually avoid it unless we are sharing memes or it is something objectively ridiculous like Alex Jones. We've had a lot of bitter arguments as well. It's water under the bridge.

Can't say I've ever had an argument with a friend that took more than one of us messaging the other the next day asking if they were still crying about it to fix.

What I've noticed is, the more you disagree with friends about politics, the harder any arguements/fallouts tend to get. Got one buddy I've gotten into it with pretty badly a few times because of stupid bs, but we're both conservatives who like talking politics, and it invariably brings us back together to bs"ing like it never happened. Liberal friends I've had tend to get way more butthurt about that kinda stuff and are far more prone to holding prolongued grudges over stupid chit. The more liberal they are, the more intense our disagreenments in general become, especially since libs tend to be a lot more prone to holding prolongued grudges about stupid chit. Moderates being somewhere in between. srs.

It's because it has become a matter of good vs evil. A lot of liberals view the current GOP as an existential threat to what they view as good moral values. For example, I don't consider Trump intrinsically racist, but I do consider him chauvinistic (depending on if you view cultural identity as "race", then he could be "racist"). But some people hold cultural equality as a core moral value. If they believe one ought to respect all cultures, they may view Trump and his brand of western chauvinism as inherently immoral. It then becomes existential, see. He isn't just a guy who disagrees on x policy. He's now an immoral guy. A similar thing happens for matters of abortion rights. It isn't just the left that is intolerant though. The right can be just as intolerant. For example, if you literally consider abortion to be murder, then all the democrats are enabling murder and intrinsically evil.

See the problem? Now, it's good vs evil. That's where the fighting begins.

And it is really both sides doing this. On the left, you have the GOP being labeled fascist and racist. On the right, they are labeling the Democrats groomers, child murderers, and so on.

Meanwhile actual nazis, communists, and anarchists are crawling out of the woodwork looking to make some gains while everyone is bickering. It's a sad state of affairs. It's important to remember your friends next to you are real, tangible people who have been there with you. The political idea or the politician you are defending hasn't.

It is the ultimate cuck to put politics above your friends and family.

I had a college buddy that I looked up to because he was way smarter and more talented than me. He would put me down on occasion but we always had a blast partying and laughing together.

Time marched on and he came to visit my place after divorcing his wife, he tried to creep out my young son and flirt with my wife. I told him to GTFO and haven't talked with him since.
Don't put that on me Ricky Bobby, don't you ever put that on me.

I haven't lost any friends over an argument

But as mentioned above, when it comes to politics, I try to just avoid the topic.... The more I talk politics with people, the dumber I think they are and the less I respect them lol

ive had many arguments with friends that were resolved after the fact kinda easily with a talk because real friends can clear the air

but the 'friends' that I had an absolute falling out with that we couldnt sort it out; those guys are the ones that at some point things changed and the relationship dynamic changed.
for example. when I was struggling and working a 9-5 job i had several people I was always hanging out with, getting by with and just spending time with. when i decided to better myself , go back to school and grow as a person they started to see me differently. instead of complaining about things i took responsibility for myself and my actions while they still complained and had someone to blame.

push came to shove and one dude told me 'i was doing alot better than alot of people' and resented that i had more money coming in with a better job. i told him plainly he has a chance to make choices also and he told me he didnt want to deal with me anymore.
the other guy flat out opened a business with misleading information in the ads. I called him directly and told him he was committing fraud and the next day he blocked me on social media and wouldnt return calls.

some people that really are 'friends' are willing to work with you to be in your life

other people that are using you will eventually just weed themselves out
