I got a $94k commission check for July…just lol at taxes

$49.8k after tax. Still nice to wake up to an extra $50k your bank account but what a joke Canada is

For those wondering, I’m in sales for an IT recruitment company

Yeah I'm sure sales can be miserable, but the guy made $50k in one month. That's most people yearly salary. He could damn near quit the rest of the year if the company allowed it.

Just think if you grind hard for a few years, move up, and save aggressively. I read r/fire and some guys do this.

First few years we’re a grind, but now I’m just kinda on auto pilot since I’ve built up such a large client base so things are easy. Will pull over $500k this year, crazy to think about it since I started entry level on 35k back in 2018

I also work in tech sales in Canada… they tax commission as if it’s your bi weekly pay cheque. You will get a big chunk back on your tax return. But I feel like you already knew that

Yeah I knew that, just hurts seeing $44k in one pay check go to taxes.

Don’t feel sorry for scum recruiters. You’ll are worse then used car sales men. I literally got a 20 dollars raise by threatening to quit on a big project 1 year ago because I felt like they where underpaying me while having a huge bill rate.

That’s for contracting, I place people for fulltime jobs. The more money I get someone on their base salary, the more money I make on commission as we charge a fee % based on what the candidate accepts on the baseZ I’ve gotten candidates 50-100k raises on base salary.

For contracting it’s different. If company engages with recruitment agency to find a software engineer. Company will give a pay rate to recruitment agency (ie $100per hour), recruitment agency will try and find someone around 70-80 per hour and keep the difference as profit. If they can find someone willing to work for 50 or 60 per hour then they’ll make more profit.

That's how it should be man, congrats. A lot of people aren't willing to put in that **** work at the beginning to get the pay off in the end. Everybody now days expects immediate returns/advancement. That's not the real world.

Love hearing stories of perseverance paying off.

Thanks a lot. Just got to stay consistent for a few years esp in sales and once you’ve established yourself, is when the big $$ starts coming in

Go for it lol, better yet tell them you got another offer at (insert whatever rate you want) and ask them to match. That’s how I leverage better offers for my candidates.
