How many of you humps are using a password manager, like BitWarden or 1Password?

For the longest time I didn't know these things existed or how they worked. Tried BitWarden last week, which is a free app, and it's already been a game changer. Highly recommended if you are one of those people who uses the same password for every site or stores your passwords in a word document or on paper.

In b4 it's discovered that this software is controlled by the CCP to harvest foreigner's data.

P.S. I lost a misc account from 2008 (or earlier) because I left for a while and forgot the username and password. That tragedy could have been avoided if I had been using this type of software.

I've been trying to get my mum to use one for ages, she prefers to keep her passwords on sticky notes in a box on her coffee table and changes her password literally every month to pay her electric bill. Drives me fuking nuts

I know what that life is like.

Does she use chrome? Bitwarden has a chrome extension. It took me maybe 15 minutes to understand how everything works. It's a huge relief.

I prefer KeePass and then synchronize my password database across devices myself.

I've used Bitwarden in the past and have several family members set up with it. It's pretty good but the Android app feels heavy, and I just don't think the app is well designed.

I have an algorithm that I apply to the url to create a password. I can recreate any password that I forget.
Screw nature; my body will do what I DAMN WELL tell it to do!

The only dangerous thing about an exercise is the person doing it.

They had the technology to rebuild me. They made me better, stronger, faster......

Are you using a Stateless Password Manager (or generator) or doing some other kind of magic?

How do you handle websites that require you to change your password periodically?

I do it in my head. Letters are shifted, converted to numbers, a calculation done and then converted back to part letters and part numbers.

A step in the process is incremented with each password change, which produces a password that isn't simply incremented.

If I forget the increment, a couple of tries and I find the right one.

I remember all my PWs(all different) no need for anything. All are easily 15+ characters long.

That said, I do have them all written down in a secure spot just in case.

It's easier that it sounds. You remember a lot of your passwords simply by virtue of repetitive entry. You only have to calculate it when you make it or have forgotten it due to not having used it for a long time.

It's a bit like phone numbers pre cell phones: you remembered lots of phone numbers, but now you make them a contact and never remember the number.

I'm genuinely curious if you could go into more detail about your method or how you do this, if it doesn't compromise your online security to give details.

They pretty much got all this chit built into the latest browsers and phones, all you gotta do is log into your Google/Apple/Microsoft account.

I will make up an example method, not the one I use, but something simple that anybody can do

take basic numerical values of a=1, b=2 etc and make the letters with an odd number value upper case and even number lower case, then add together all the numerical values and add that total to the end.

m = 13
o = 15
c = 3
t = 20
o = 15
d = 4
g = 7

d = 4
l = 12
i = 9
u = 21
b = 2
y = 25
d = 4
o= 15
b = 2

total = 194

MOCtOdGnIdlIUbYdOb194

You can use the same method for every URL and as long as you remember the method, you can recreate the password.

Well what kinda chit are these passwords for? Most passwords I save are just logins for various websites and basic tech services, because every stupid thing makes you create an account these days.
