Do you move turtles across the road when you see them crossing?

Stop car and get out to save turtles even if it creates a big line of traffic crew.

Turtles are cool. And compared to other animals some can live a long time so if you see a huge one he might be as old as you.

It takes minimal effort, and it’s a shame if they just get smashed. Big snappers aren’t scary just grab them by the back of the shell. I know some people who eat them (gross)..that’s ok too at least it’s not a life going to waste.

This is really a sweet thread. I like turtles a lot and fortunately never saw one crossing the road, but if I did, I would stop to help the little fella out. Used to catch them in the backyard though, back when we were kids.

Where are you at where you don’t see them ever? That’s a surprise

I was just in Grand Canyon and I guess it’s illegal to touch a desert tortoise because of the germs on human hands…except to move them out of the road which is allowed

tried to move a turtle one time, and when I approached him that SOB fking darted across fast asf, like I've never seen a turtle move like that. mfker was chillin in the road I guess until i showed up

Me too, within safety. Moved one just a couple weeks ago in a country road. I usually take them wherever they seem to be heading, figure they're trying to get there for a reason.

Same. The one I saved last week was an Eastern Wood Turtle. Coolest turtle I’ve ever seen he was all black and yellow (Steelers fan). Threatened in Michigan and endangered in other states, apparently a rare site. Michigans only terrestrial turtle made my morning

yes, i once picked up probably a 30lb snapping turtle on a county road and moved him off into the fields so he'd be safe from the traffic

We got a lot of gofer tortoises

As a law you can’t take them from the wild and must leave them where they are at. So when crossing the Road that is the only time I will touch them to move them to the other side of it.
Long legged birds crossing the busy roads too I always move around if a green light or I’ll break for them. But some get hit by careless drivers it’s just a hard part of life.
We did intrude on their land technically but anyone who runs over any wildlife on purpose.. I want to chase them down and jap slap the **** out of them and run them over a bunch of times. Cruel af.

I actually own a turtle I found in the road years ago newly hatched I think he was only the size of a quarter..Gus is now 18 (apparently the common map turtle can live 30 years in captivity. He’s outlived two dogs and a cat acquired after he came on the scene)

never had it happen, but we rescued a Desert Tortoise a couple months ago and I made a pretty cool oasis/garden for it with a small waterfall and cave he can go into to sleep..took me a week to build it all, but the guy lives in a small paradise now

Just moved a big one off the road a few weeks ago. It was about 16 inches wide. Don't lift by the rim of the shell because it hurts them. They need support from the underside.
