Hey I'm good with calling the new homeless camps"Bidenville".

That way the homeless have a way to get their mail. Set them up in city parks...kids don't really need to play soccer, right?

You really need a mailing address for a lot of reasons. Might as well set up wifi for the camps while we are at it.

You can't just cull people that don't have a place to live

The homeless issue started in the 90's when the mental institutions were finally closed out

Most are mentally incapable of taking care of themselves anymore, a lot of drug use obviously

A lot are veterans & we shouldn't allow them to be homeless in the first place

Also they can't just go apply for a job because you need a residence to even get a job

Not sure what country but assuming America. Imagine having socialized healthcare and paying for their ambulance ride and ED visit cuz they want a sandwich, meanwhile you wait 17 hours to X-ray your broken arm.

Housing them has been proven to be cheaper here due to the decrease in their usage of healthcare. Many are so low functioning (often hypoxic head injuries from repeated overdoses but also just fetal exposure) and they need to be institutionalized.

Can't vouch specifically for these stats but there is a lot of good research showing the same general thing.

Not sure about stats/costs for Ameribrahs though. Our town is actually on the brink of several large housing projects. Will be interesting to see if it actually works. But when they shut down the institution in Vancouver if flooded the city with homeless (soon to be) addicts and they've never recovered. The talk about institutions is finally coming back as it used to be an untouchable subject.

Katya's Amoral Thoughts On Solving The Drug Problem

- provide legal free drugs at quite pleasant [though controlled] sites

Why?

- kill off the black market competition > gain control of the market

*********

- ring fence drug use to defined locations

Why?

- medical and law enforcement needs can be more easily targeted

- reduce safety hazards for the non-using general public

**********

- PR campaign to spread the public perception that drugs are the road to poor health and early death, something for clowns, weak people, and losers [not risk takers/baddies]

Why?

- to reduce/prevent new users taking up the habit

*********

So in the meantime we would still see people killing themselves slow or fast with these substances, but by killing the black market and controlling the point of supply/use there should be the opportunity to reduce the harm.

Personally I would make 'em free, but every time someone comes in to use I would require them to read aloud the risks of using and to acknowledge that they have the option to choose treatment instead, but are choosing to use of their own free will rather than to enter into a treatment program.

^^^
That's the "socialist" part...need a treatment option free to any users who want it and it should be a really good one with "halfway house" type support and jobs for those that need that to get on their feet again.

If you are going to be evil then at least be smart evil.

- set up system as outlined

- create a reasonable seeming timeline for the *near* eradication ofchronicdrug use

- lottery system for heavy/repeated users

- "winners" OD...contaminated dose, lethal injection

Chew away at it gradually and no trauma for the general public. No need to scare the sheep dear.

But the way it is now is like you're describing. Lots of ******** spiked doses, and they already don't care. Might as well finish them off at this point.

A controlled reduction which preserves the best of us is preferable, but going too quickly [rapid die off] is a recipe for disaster. It might already be happening if the increased all cause mortality and decreased birth rate continue for a decade or more.

I'm a bit of a black hearted bastard, but in my opinion if you're an addict or so mentally ill you can't be housed and refuse to take meds to control it then you're not contributing anything to society and should just be euthanized at a certain point. I also don't believe in housing criminals for life sentences, and think that if you get life, that's it - doing something bad enough to be in prison for life means you have given up your right to live.

So you give people a timeline. Give them support they need to get off the streets and become functioning members of society, and if they do then great. Social housing, medications, jobs, whatever they need to provide and let them prosper. The ones who refuse and/or are so far gone they would rather live on the streets if they are still there within x amount of time they get put down.

The reason there are veterans homeless is b/c they were destined to be homeless anyway, the military just delayed that. I'd say half or more of the homeless population is mentally ill, but really, they're just useless eaters too. The other half are just pos criminals that will steal anything. But, I don't think they ONLY steal b/c they're homeless, I think they're homeless b/c they are thieves. Broken people, like broken appliances, should be disposed of. Is that cold, yes, would it work, yes. How would you like to know your neighbor is only not killing you or stealing your shyt b/c of a pill that he doesn't even like to take b/c of the side effects?

People that are completely dependent upon a pill to keep them from being animals do not belong with civilization. I'm not talking about depressed or bipolar, I'm talking about those with fairly severe schizophrenia that hate their Haldol and Cogenant (sp?). Especially if they have violent tendencies or an extensive criminal background.

Just stop giving them free stuff, and make it legal and high status to defend yourself and your property against them. They'll all either die out or fix their chit really quickly.

Lol not srs.

My sister is homeless because she’s a druggie and refuses help. Pretty sure this is the case for most, so tbh idc and don’t think any deserve help since they won’t help themselves.

Ben Franklin had it figured out.

“I am for doing good to the poor, but...I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. I observed...that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer.”

― Benjamin Franklin
"To be a warrior is not a simple matter of wishing to be one. It is rather an endless struggle that will go on to the very last moment of our lives. Nobody is born a warrior, in exactly the same way that nobody is born an average man. We make ourselves into one or the other."-- Carlos Castaneda

The real dracula had a solution:

Vlad the Impaler solves the homeless problem
[Warning: violent]
EXT. TÎRGOVISTE DINING HALL — NIGHT
Vlad stops outside the hall and confers with DRAGOMIR, the Captain of his guards:
VLAD: You have gathered together all the cripples, the poor, the sick, the vagrants and beggars of this land?
DRAGOMIR: Yes, Voivode. They’re quite a smelly crowd, but they seem to be having a good time. It’s lasted all day, and half the night.
Vlad nods, and walks inside the hall.
INT. TÎRGOVISTE DINING HALL — CONTINUOUS
Hundreds of wretched PEOPLE are enjoying a sumptuous feast. They stuff themselves with huge plates of food, and drink jugs of wine until they can drink no more. Things are getting pretty ROWDY, but everyone quiets down at the sight of Vlad.
VLAD: No one should go hungry in my land! What else do you need? Do you all want to be without cares… would you like to be poor no more?
PEOPLE: YES!
VLAD: Then it shall be done!
He walks out.
EXT. TÎRGOVISTE DINING HALL — CONTINUOUS
Vlad addresses his Captain:
VLAD: Dragomir, all my subjects should work, and contribute to the common welfare. Let’s make sure these parasites will present no further burden to others.
Dragomir nods, and signals to his MEN. They NAIL planks over the doors and windows, and set fire to the hall.
VLAD (continuing): Remember: no survivors.
Dragomir salutes, as Vlad walks away. The people inside the burning building begin to SCREAM.

Oh I think where we fail to agree is an issue of degree. You assume that everyone who has fallen into a bad state is a lost cause and beyond hope of saving.

I believe we should try to give everyone a real chance at making it. Not everyone gets that just as a matter of course.

There is an inadequate availability of help for people that want it and could benefit from it. IIRC the fastest growing segment of homeless people right now is old ladies like me...single women over 50.

Believe it or don't believe it, but over age 50 for most people who don't have a skill in high demand only the lowest tier jobs are attainable which rarely provide enough income for housing.

Many people fall into drinking and drug use as a way to cope with being homeless.
In many situations, however, substance abuse is a result of homelessness rather than a cause. People who are homeless often turn to drugs and alcohol to cope with their situations. They use substances in an attempt to attain temporary relief from their problems. In reality, however, substance dependence only exacerbates their problems and decreases their ability to achieve employment stability and get off the streets. Additionally, some people may view drug and alcohol use as necessary to be accepted among the homeless community (Didenko and Pankratz, 2007).

Social housing, medications, jobs, whatever they need to provide and let them prosper. The ones who refuse and/or are so far gone they would rather live on the streets if they are still there within x amount of time they get put down.
Same here and I feel like if I was in the same boat, I’d rather just be humanly put out to pasture. I’d have a little party right before hand and say my good byes to everybody wish everyone well.

So yea "giving them a chance" is naive, just expel them from our kingdom and let them earn their place back if they can make it.
Not all homeless people are the same though.
Transitional Homelessness

Transitional homelessness is “a state of homelessness that’s a result of a major life change or catastrophic event”. These life changes might be job loss, a health condition, divorce, domestic abuse, a substance use disorder, or personal or family crisis, among many others, resulting in people being in unhoused situations for less than a year.

People who experience transitional homelessness may enter a transitional housing program for a limited time. They may also sleep in their cars or outside. Oftentimes people experiencing transitional homelessness still have jobs, but cannot afford housing and other expenses.
Episodic Homelessness

People can also experience “episodic homelessness”, whether they are currently unhoused or experienced at least three periods of homelessness within the last 12 months.

Like transitional homelessness, many of those facing episodic homelessness are younger or dealing with a disabling condition. These conditions could be substance use disorder, mental illness, and other mental and/or physical health conditions. In some cases, some episodically unhoused people have seasonal or minimum wage income jobs.
Chronic Homelessness

A person experiencing chronic homelessness is defined as "an unaccompanied homeless individual with a disabling condition" who has been homeless for more than one year. It’s more common for people experiencing chronic homelessness to also deal with a certain disability, mental health condition, addiction, and other debilitating conditions that restrict their ability to escape homelessness.

According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, chronically homeless people tend to be older and makeup about 17% of the homeless population. Many chronically unhoused people have complex, long-term health issues and live on the street, in parks, in cars, or in other places that are not suitable or safe for living.
Hidden Homelessness

Individuals who live with others temporarily without a permanent home are considered “hidden homeless,” as it is often most unnoticed. Since they lack access to housing support resources and cannot be identified, they are 'hidden' from national statistics on homelessness.

Since they lack access to housing support resources and cannot be identified, they are 'hidden' from national statistics on homelessness.

People who experience hidden homelessness, often turn to friends, family, and neighbors for a shelter or a place of refuge. In a lot of cases, many of these people cannot afford to pay rent or afford other living expenses. The first sign of homelessness for them may be couch surfing or sleeping over with friends, which is considered to be less serious — and obvious — than sleeping on the street.
