How is it possible that rentcucks even exist anymore

Most of the developed world had interest rates that were effectively negative in real terms

They were paying you to hold currency

Meanwhile property prices went up by 30% or more

BRB handing over a gross yield of 7% or more to some other guy so I can pay off his property investment

And look forward to paying a higher amount each year

How do rentcels still exist given all these things? How did they all not just buy a place to live?

Even if somehow you didn’t want to invest in the housing market for yourself to make a profit surely it would have been worth it just to avoid having to pay skyrocketing rents

If free money couldn’t do it what would it take?

After 2009, qualifying for a loan became unnecessarily tight. Lots and lots of people get locked out.

My old coworker is paying $2500/mo rent bc she couldn't qualify for a $2000/mo mortgage. lol

I'm thankful we picked up a couple properties while I was still W2. Trying to qualify as a business owner is like walking on broken glass.

Really common in high COL areas.

The industry guideline is that total debt (including mortgage) should be no more than 35% of your gross income. Meanwhile, a lot of renters are paying $2-3k in LA on like $50k/yr. lol

Because we like being under flexible terms like month-to-month rent. Many places are also rent controlled so rent prices can be quite low and stay low.

I have large emergency savings on top of that so zero fuks given and complete peace of mind about losing a job while mortgagecels sweat bullets everyday to stay wagecucking

Because everyone needs that brand new car or iPhone instead of saving money for a house deposit.

Brb bought my first house @ 20 years old while all my friends travel
Brb turned 30 all my friends still renting and I travel 2-3 times a year while cucks pay the mortgage of my investment properties

Biggest problem with the younger generations, want everyone now, no forward planning.

Gone are the days of below $1k/mo rent. I was actually contemplating going back to move in with the parents to essentially multiply by 1.5x the amount I can save annually srs.

Seems very strange given you guys have long term fixed rates

Anyway, regardless of the absolute borrowing capacity, they should have looked around and said to themselves “well, it’s never going to be easier than it is right now” and got what they could afford

Imagine that you don't have the average 9-5 and you get denied for a mortgage because you don't have the same employer for 24 straight months.

That happened to me the first time I ever applied. They didn't even care about my assets or net worth. (Ded fkn Srs)

There's so many people who have a $500/month car payment even though they only make like 40k and can't afford a property. It's kind of sad

Enjoying the suburbs watching the block with your missus who is probably only one of 3 woman you’ve ever had sex with in your life.

Rather be a rent cuck in the city.

Turns out there’s more money to be made redeveloping and selling (compared with buy and hold) and a lot less hassle in the long run (once you know the planning regs in detail and have a good team of architects, engineers, marketing agents, accountant etc etc)

Self-employed people have it tough when they try to get a mortgage, at least here in Canada. Even though I make six figures and qualified I was still considered high risk so they were either gouging me with interest rates 2-3% higher or asking for at least 20% down and I didn't have 150k saved. Plus, here it's much cheaper to rent anyway and I'm saving more.

Hoping that in two years when a lot of mortgages people are house poor with come up for renewal there will be some good prices and that's when I'm planning on buying, plus I'll have the 20% down by then no problem.

Didn’t really want the responsibilities of owning a home and like to move every few years, so renting was already the better option, but I recently purchased a home because the rent here (eastern Ontario) has gone insane. Landlord wanted to jack our rent from 1550$ to 2550$ so I said fuark it, went a litter further away from town, and bought a fixer upper house and my mortgage is less than $1000 a month. If I ever decide I want to move I’ll just rent this place out for double my costs and profit off of it. I should’ve bought sooner
