I am actually bored of life, thinking about living in a truck and traveling
little background on me.. in my 30s.. make mid six figures from home.. no friends left, spent a lot of time gaming and got sick of that.. lived in nice apartments the past 5+ years and I'm bored.
thought about how cool it would be to get a truck/SUV, turn it into a car, and just travel the country for a few years. i'm a minimalist by default and don't really care about having a nice place anymore.
is this a safe thing to do, anybody done it? i haven't been anywhere in years due to the pandemic, and i'm rotting at home all the time.
also keep in mind, this isn't for saving money, although that would be a benefit. this is just for adventure.

I just wanna be out in nature or outside doing chit but everybody just wants to stay inside. It's brutal.

Lifted high top extended 4x4 van is by far the winning ticket. Convert so you have a full size bed and running water to chit and shower. Allows you to go almost anywhere. Can attach solar panels and a star link to always have good internet
I have a converted high top and I’ve had some great trips. Next van will be like ^^^

I'm planning on building out a van next year I think, not to live out of permanently but for traveling/extended road trips/camping and such

Talk to anyone that actually does it & they'll tell you the startup cost is much higher than you think unless you want to bummaxx in a tiny van & chit in a bucket (near 6 figures)

My brother thought it would be a great idea. he bought an old beat up camper and lived in that.
Sounded cool until he told me what its really like. You have no toilet so he was always in the walmart parking lots. Showering was a rare thing too.
His meals were just fast food and other crap. maybe a hot meal of ramen but thats about it. Of course dirty clothes go along with it all.
As far as safety well forget that too. he said after a while the cops start noticing you and will be routinely knocking on yoru camper door asking this or that. he wasnt even doing anything wrong but still it drew lots of attention because they started to recognize him and probably wanted him to start moving along.
Lots of creepy people around trying the door knob in the middle of the night too.
I asked him what he did when it got dark and he told me he pretty much just sat in the dark and cried.
After I heard that I had him come live with me.
if this sounds like a fun adventure, have at it but this is much closer to reality than what you see online.

This is how I travel, but I live in a house.
I have a 2020 Silverado with a topper. Inside the bed I welded a metal tube rack to split the bed in half and used the top side as a bed/matress platform and used the bottom for storage. I have a 20g water tank w/ pump and a small hot water heater/shower in there.
On the inside I removed the back seats and welded a rack for storage of totes and a refrigerator that slides out the rear passenger door for easy access.
I spent a week in Colorado and Utah earlier in the spring and it was a good time, I wouldnt want to live like that permanently though.

Not once was I stopped, yet harassed by the police. No one really fuked with me because I brought a 150lb dog. except some kunt that was trying to check out my van when I went inside a gas station. He got close to looking in my window and my dog snapped at him and he damn near fell and took off.
At night I’d often have a fire. I had a tv, laptop, and ps4, although I barely watched any tv or played games. Who was national gym membership for a quick workout and shower? There were surprisingly a few nice showers at campgrounds too.
Had some incredible food along the way and some of the best meals of my life. If I wanted something super easy and quick, I’d either go to habit burger or wahoos. Never had poverty face food, let alone ramen. Picked up some great fish along the coast and grilled it up at camp. Your brother sounds like a loser. I guess life is what you make of it.
Dirty clothes? if you’re poverty you could go to a laundrymat. If not, drop your chit off to get dry cleaned and pick up the next day.

If you ask me, buying a stealth van negates everything. No harassment from cops, no worries of break in, and lastly you can have a toilet with built in shower

This has been a goal of mine for sometime would love to find a delica in good condition and convert it with some essentials
