Does being 10 - 15% bf in your 30’s set you apart?

I was sitting at the gate at the airport and watching people going on and coming off the plane, and nearly everyone was overweight. Men, and women alike were overweight.

The gate at the airport seems to be a good sample of the American population and from what I saw it doesn’t look good.

Which got me thinking about how if a man is 10-15% bf in his 30’s that he is definitely outside the standard deviation of the average American male in his 30’s.

Only if you have:

6ft height
6in penor
6 figure salary

Might as well bloatmaxx if you don't have these traits to go with low bf status

Maybe 40. 30 should still be in prime shape, I mean your physical prime is 28 so your body shouldn’t suddenly rot within a couple of years.

This. Just being in shape and generally healthy puts you in the uncommon of the general population. Once you start taking it more seriously via diet and training, you are now uncommon amongst the uncommon.

This gets more apparent the older you get like you pointed out OP.

This doesn't really apply in the usa as your average person is grotesquely obese so even 20% is considered 'fit' since the perspective is so skewed, but I think the 10-15% range will definitely set you apart elsewhere. Having a decent amount of mass on your body at 15% is pretty noteworthy. The bar lowers for people collectively after the 30s have set in so it seems to become more and more impressive to maintain a relatively low bf% as you age. How many shredded 55 years olds do you come across? The cope skyrockets as the years go on.

Its good to be fit and healthy, but no one gives a fuk other than "hey that guy must work out a lot". 30s are for starting a family and progressing careerwise.

No it doesn't, it's a case of catch 22.
You're 35, 10% bf and a healthy lifestyle. So you look like you're in your 20's. Randoms who don't know you will assume you're in your 20's, so you look how they think you should look for the age they think you are.

Was at Costco last weekend and pretty much every guy there looked pregnant. They are usually married though.

People talk about women letting themselves go, but men seem to be just as bad.

Not a good sample at all. People that fly tend to be in better shape than most. Consider that there is a big chunk of the population to obese to get out of bed or leave the house. Then there are some that are too obese and feel too embarrassed to fly and have to buy 2 seats etc. so there is a pretty big percentage of the population that don’t fly.

Do you mean help you with dating? It depends. Usually older women and gay men like muscular guys. Even my young family member just said that guys with muscle are narcissists and that they aren't attractive to her. She said guys who are fit and toned are attractive.

Not being overweight puts you in the top 30% or something like that. You'd think that'd set you apart, but most people aren't going to perceive you as above average unless you're in the top 15%.

Nah, not true. I'm single digit bf and people know I'm not in my 20's any more.

Maybe possibly pull off very fringe 20's (like 28-29) but I'd say even that's not the most likely perception. People generally think I'm 30-35 and I don't think that perception has anything to do with bf%
"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

100% but not in the way you might hope. They will be jealous and angry towards you which can create isolation. You wont' be seen as some "God" to these fat cretins. You will be seen as a threat/enemy.

Average American men and women have ~28 and 40% body fat.

Data from National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES) 1999–2004 have recently shown the percent body fat of American adults. Average American men and women have ~28 and 40% body fat. When categorized by BMI and age, the data also show high percent body fat values, particularly in lower BMI categories. These data should make one reflect on the health status of Americans in all BMI categories and the use of these data for public health recommendations.
