I have officially accepted that I will never have a happy life w/out alcohol
Late 30's. I love how these AA group, therapists and the list goes on thinks that alcohol is what is making someone depressed and they will feel so much better without it. Well, I've officially hit 18 months no alcohol. Not a single drop. I feel just as sh*tty, depressed, and anxious as I did when drinking. My one suicide attempt at 18 where the rope budged (ded fuking srs) i had never up to that point had a sip of alcohol. Never did drugs.
Antidepressants made me worse and made me gain 30 lbs (lost it back the last 4 months).
Whether it's feelings of dread, nervousness. and utter despair, alcohol would fix it. Whether my nerve spasms in my back from years of competitive sports, a few sips of alcohol would get rid of it.
I am literally no better off than 18 months ago mental health wise. Let's not of course forget getting no female intimacy because I can only do that when drinking (which I had pretty good success with).
So unless you are getting behind the wheel or have health problems with your organs, I say go for it.
Anyone who expresses how great they feel about now being sober means they certainly never needed alcohol, and the reason they became hooked to it was simply to get drunk. (srs)

Alcohol doesn't fix the problem like you state in the OP. It just treats the symptoms for a few hours. You should see a therapist OP. Also, if you aren't, go to the gym and starting eating healthy. Do you pursue any kind of worthwhile goals like career or hobby wise? What gives you drive?

stops working after a while and just makes it worse, unless you're only drinking rarely, but if you're using it to cope with life then i doubt that would be the case

Drinking alcohol does not fix your problems. Quitting alcohol also does not fix your problems. You obviously have issues other than alcohol addiction. Stop being a ****g0t and fix them.
For God so repped the world, that he negged his only begotten Son, that whosoever reppeth in him should not be negged, but have everlasting reps.

I mean I fully believe that some of my happiest and most fun memories/experiences involved alcohol. Nothing wrong with it in moderation IMO.

Pretty much one of the reasons once I start I don’t stop, even if I decided to have a shot at 5am, would probably be 30 deep by end of day.

So in that 18 months did you just stop drinking or did you also get help for all of your other issues?
