Do you lend money to friends/ ask to borrow money? srs

My barber messaged me said he is ashamed but needs 2k fast. Wouldve gone NC but he has been cutting my hair for like 16 years or so and does a good job. So I just said I am short on cash wouldve given him otherwise. Lied obviously

He takes the money and cant pay back Im gonna have to look for a new barber. From what I've seen from others lending money is a great way to lose a friend.

never 'loan' money to someone and expect it back. Only if you can afford to treat it as a gift should you help. So $20-$80 when we are out and about eating etc? Sure. Car needs a new alternator? Sorry bruh

Also this. Most of the time the only thing broke people talk about is what they would do if they had more money.

If I’m giving money to someone it’s a gift, I give my best friend cash sometimes even though she never asks, but I see her struggling for good reasons, not because she’s a druggie or deadbeat, I’ll send some her way.

I also sent money to someone that I met at the gun store but she didnt have a job at the time and couldn’t afford one so I sent her money. She offered to pay me back but no, money should be a gift.

Don’t give money to the homeless or addicts though.

1. Why would your barber have your phone number; even my work doesn't have my personal number

2. Never loan someone money expecting to see it returned, that's the golden rule

I have never asked friends to lend me money. I would loan money to a friend if there was a legit reason and I believed they'd be responsible in the future. I have given money to people in need with no expectation of it being paid back. That's low amounts like $10-20.

1) barbers are very important over here bruh its a cultural thing. Besides I need to call him to make an appointment if I walk in without calling Im gonna have to wait like 2 hours.

2) aware. I just made the thread how easy people can just ask for cash straight up. This has happened before. Never paid to any of course

I have given money like that too for example a bro was driving me around and I paid for the food. Stuff like that dont count as 'lending' money. Or we are at a market buying beer over here sometimes one of us just pays for the others.

What Im talking about when a friend, cousin etc calling/ texting you saying stuff like how he is having a hard time and needs 5k fast.

Many years ago a kid from the bar I worked at texted me said he is stuck at somewhere with his gf and needs cash. Normally they move on to the next victim when you say no directly but this guy wouldnt quit kept on begging in the end I said "dude dont you a fukin mother and a father go beg to them". Never talked to him after that. My god what a fağgot

no amount is too big for people who ask for money.

have you guys noticed that?

2k? you are not getting that back. you'll give him some time and slack to pay it back.

he'll say give him some more time. he'll ghost you. then you'll contact him and he'll say he already TOLD YOU he'll pay when HE CAN

lol

Yeah those are insane amounts of money to ask to borrow from someone. I can't even imagine someone doing that. If I were ever in a situation where I needed that kind of money for say something catastrophic happening to my dog and no other way to get the money, I'd make a go fund me because there are tons of people from the rescue where I got him that loved him and would want to help out.

Why the heck does your barber need to ask customers for 2K?

Yeah its a bit weird.

He is normally ok to talk to and does his job good. Normally I go NC on people that beg for money.

Couple years back my elementary school principal called my father and asked like 20k. My dad usually doesnt send people away directly( as I did) and told him to send bank details and he will look into it. Dad called a third person that knows both after that to ask whats up then got told my old principal has scammed people recently. Then my dad msged him and said sorry I cant give you money.

Its a small 60k population town so everyone knows each other

Its always a gift IMO

I'll give money to my sister to help raise her kids because her ex is a deadbeat loser. Payed for a new roof on her house a few years ago because she needed it and its a major expense. I never expect the money back. I would do the same for friends but none of my friends are struggling.
