When I got on the bus, I sat down near 3 White males who looked to be around 10th or 11th grade. I wasn't fully paying attention to what they were saying, but the 1 White kid came across as a sociopath, almost acting like a caricature of a Nate Diaz type, but more well-spoken.

A few stops later and 2 Indian kids get on the bus who looked to be maybe in 8th grade.

The 1 White kid immediately starts messing with one of them for no reason (maybe to impress his friends?), asking if they paid to get on the bus. Indian kids say they did, and White kid responds by saying "good boys".

White kid then asks if the Indian kid knows "Ateesh" or some other Indian-sounding name. Indian kid says he does not. White kids say, "Yeah you do. You look like you know Ateesh". Indian kid is now awkward as he knows he's being messed with and picked on.

White kid then says "I saw you today at York Mills Public School. I said hi to you and you didn't respond." Indian kid says "I don't go there." White kid says "Yeah you do, why didn't you say hi to me?"

To their credit, the other 2 White kids didn't participate or even laugh as their friend was doing this.

Just reminded me of how cruel and cold this world is, and made me think about how similar little moments like this happened to me in high school when older or bigger kids would mess with me for no reason when I was in 9th or 10th grade.

I can't say I was ever truly "bullied", thankfully, but I was messed with exactly like this a handful of times. The feelings of being defenseless and vulnerable and feeling like I was about to get jumped or attacked came rushing back. Legitimately still affecting me hours later.

No real evidence this was racism. Just seemed like standard bullying. And funny enough, that's where I grew up and still occasionally have to travel through that area. Scarborough is maybe 10% White or less these days. Even 10 years ago, any racism was more likely to be targeted towards White people than coming from them, in my experience.

Being racist isn't necessarily a bad thing. It is often a very good thing. It's the bullying that is the issue, not any supposed "racism".

It's even worse these days. Joggers legit targeting young white kids now cuz they know they can get away with it. Was talking to some young white brah a while back and he got jumped right by the civic centre near STC. Seen another get his shoes robbed etc. Scarborough is a complete shthole these days, didn't think it could get worse but it actually has.

That particular white kid just planted the seeds of lifelong racism in the thinking of those indian kids sadly and some where down the line the indian kids will eventually discriminate against a white person at some point in their lives because of this interaction
