Anyone Else Can't Sleep? (srs)

Had caffeine at like 6pm because I was tired, but now I'm still wired out of my mind.

Have a long day tomorrow and don't know if I'll survive

Me right now:

I have naturally always been more of a night owl type of person. As great as being awake at night and the benefits that come from it such as silence, cooler temps, faster internet, there's something tugging at the back of the mind about needing to sleep. Typically can't sleep until past 2 am even sometimes 3 and don't actually start sleeping until around after 4.

I typically sleep around 4 hours a night, it sucks. I always have trouble falling asleep, then staying asleep once I do.

Damn Idk how you brahs do it. I used to go to bed at 9 and wake up at 5 daily. Now I go to bed at 11 like clockwork. I need my 7-8 hours.

But right now I seriously might pull an all nighter based on how awake I am.

Lmao, y’all gotta stop drinking caffeine, pre-workouts and stimulants and watching TV and sheit. May need some complex carbs before bed too.

When I go to sleep at a reasonable hour I always wake up 4 hours later. From 8 PM to 12 AM, if I fall asleep, I'm not sleeping through the night. It kinda sucks.

I'm a caffeine addict and literally rarely ever stay up this late or have trouble falling asleep.

I did mess up drinking it this late though. I do need to quit.

That’s easy to fix tho. Once you took care of the obvious like caffeine and stimulants, turn to ashwagandha, bedtime relaxing teas, and if all else fails melatonin. Your adrenals are rising instead of dropping late at night, so you are up. This is common, thou most people get it around 7 pm on adrenal tests. Ashwagandha and melatonin are standard recommendations.

If you make it to melatonin, you can start with sleep powder, which is natural and has very low dose. If that fails go to 4 mg melatonin, but not more!

Ya that's true. I actually have some Ashwagandha kicking around. Heard if you take it too long it may lead to depersonalization but imagine it doesn't take that long to fix the sleep schedule.

Yea I usually don't have any problems though. Bedtime tea is something I did the past two years that always knocked me right out so you just reminded me off that again. Have never tried ashwagandha or needed melatonin. I definitely need to quit caffeine though. For good. It's a problem. That alone would probably cure any sniff of sleep problems for me. Thanks brah.

My main problem is that even though I feel tired and do try to "go to sleep" I end up power napping myself and feel refreshed again instead of just going into sleep. About the drinking thing, I went a few months without drinking and then last weekend drank for the first time. I was up until about 6 am even though my bod needed the rest, my mind was too high spun. Plenty of people drink to sleep or whatever but for me it ends up giving me this insane energy if I can get past the downside of wanting to sleep stage.

I need consistent noise and no light. Someone talking is just going to keep me up. One thing I did enjoy doing that I stopped was a 10 hour loop of airline cabin noise. Something about the sounds of the engines mixed with the cabin (no talking) drops me.

Yea I never have sleep issues and can usually fall asleep on command and sleep 6-7 hours straight. But just like your alcohol induced all nighter you had last weekend, I'm having that now because I drank a white monster at 6pm which usually does nothing lol. I've been weening off caffeine though so that's probably why.

I notice you're part of the misc coffee drinkers crew. Might explain part of the problem because that's clearly my problem haha. It's a vice. We're all gonna make it bro

I've had sleep issues for almost a decade now. Some things that help:

Stop caffeine at lunchtime.
2 hours before bed turn on your computer's "blue light filter" or "night light" in windows, or install "Flux" to make your screen turn off all blue light. Everything will look red or candlight colored, but its a big one to stop all blue light which makes your brain think its daytime.
Turn off electronics if you can an hour before bed, I break this rule and watch boring youtube vids like "restoration" vids of people restoring knives, small vintage machines like coffee grinders and chit. Its interesting enough to watch but quiet and slow enough to bore you.

Some supplements to take before bed that help:
Magnesium
Zinc
Valerian root (takes 1.5 hours to kick in)
Kava kava (feels like having 2 beers)
L-Theanine
5-HTP
Melatonin

sleep pills:
Antihistamines like the blue ones {as found in NyQuil} [Doxylamine succinate] (Unisom)
Antihistamines like the red ones [Diphenhydramine ] (Benadryl)
"Boss not feel good please use sick day" - low IQ tranny.

Yea I should have specified in my thread title *tonight* because I don't actually have sleep issues. Just tonight I do because I fukked up haha.

You're 100% right though in everything in your comment. Way back in the day when I tried to fix my sleep I cut out all blue lights/electronics, and then read a book instead. Knocked me out. Zinc and magnesium pill at night use to knock me out as well so I can attest to those. Haven't tried any of that other stuff but I'll try to remember this stuff if I do have sleep issues ever. I feel like sleep is one of the most important things in life that we should try to fix. I used to even have horrific neck and back pain upon waking everyday only to realize I was sleeping wrong and now I sleep with a pillow between my legs and on my side in a particular way.

Sorry about your sleep issues though. a decade is a long time

when you wake up at 3.30 am - 4:00 am.... and workout during the day ...finish your errands.... youll be bound to be dead at 7 or 8 pm....... and make sure you stay away from your phone/laptop 1 hour before you go to sleep ... just sit there go through your day, what youve done, what you have accomplished and what will be your plans for tomorrow

6 hour a night crew, former insomniac as child/teen crew.

Only things that ever helped are: doing cardio, not smoking the devil's lettuce, taking magnesium, having no coffee in the pm, fugg off all screens at least an hour before bed, reading fiction on my kindle before bed.

At least stop drinking caffeine after midday and switch to decaf drinks - the urge to drink something will still be there.

Failing that start a fighting club in a basement, it's the only other way.

Falling asleep is never a problem for me.

Just that I wake up every 90 mins to drink a glass of water and pee.

While it doesn't disrupt my REM sleep cycle, it surely is like a countdown timer.

"4.5 hours till you wake up."
"3.0 hours till you wake up."
"1.5 hours till you wake up."
"Rise and shine, it's a new day."

I wake up at 5 a.m to board the 5:30 commuter train and it's still dark out there. *shrug*

However, I can't complain because a long day is always better than a short day at my age.

You take care and have a LONG but nice day brother.

I wake up throughout the night as well. Usually I get a solid 3.5-4 hours, then wake up. On a good night I fall back asleep within 1-10 min for another 3-4 hours. On a bad night I will lay in bed for 1-3 hours until falling back asleep for another 1-2 hours. The former, I feel great the next day, but with anything under 6 hours total I have to push myself through the next day. 4 hours, and it's a really chitty day the next day.

I drink a lot of coffee, but usually stop around 2:00. 4:30 if I'm working late that night, only after that if I plan to go out late.
