Pink Floyd and Tool are in an upper league of music

No music snobbery , it's just the truth.

S Tier : Tool, Pink Floyd
A Tier: Led Zep, Queen, MJ, Stones, Beatles, Dream Theater, Opeth, Metallica, Aristocrats etc

Never known a band with as many 9+/10 songs as Tool

Off the top of my head : Reflection, Lateralus, Rosetta Stoned, The Grudge, Descending, Invincible, Pneuma, Descending, H, Pu****, Right in Two, Wings for Marie (masterpiece)

then the rest are pretty much all 8/10. Lol that list doesn't include the likes of Ticks & leeches, Vicarious etc. Vicarious is probably Master of Puppets level song, so still ****ing sick, but imagine having like 20-25 songs in a discography you could legitimately callbangers

one of my favorite bands ever but also definitely one of the most consistently good too

this ones a masterpiece that no one knows about and is pretty metalish for tool

I assume youre a really big mastodon fan too. crack the skye is a prog masterpiece all the way through.

Mastodon isn't that consistent though album to album. I don't care for one or two of them due to the radio rock sound they took for awhile.

I Fkn love Tool srs

i used to listen to them at like 13-14 but never really understood what they were about until i was in my 20s.

Seen them live pre covid and it was unreal, they ban filming with smartphones at their concerts and I found myself being able to really take the experience in a whole lot more.

Hopefully they come back for another show

there's no such thing as 'greatest' bands/music. once you get past a certain threshold (song writing, creativity, not being **** live) they're all the same. Hot take but i'm sticking to it

was talking to a guy who was a big mastodon fan and he told me to check out a song from that album, something about a baron (?), and timestamped a section : infact I'll listen to it again now, it went pretty ****ing hard.

yeah funnily enough i do struggle with depression. i do find that people who struggle mentally seem to gravitate towards bands like pink floyd/tool etc. misery loves company i guess lol, but they just sound good to me

damn tbh dude i never thought about a soladno because they're expensive and i don't really play that style of guitar (bluesy etc), but it turns out a bunch of guitarists played Soldano (clapton, mayer, srv etc)

Never got into either of those bands. Tools vocalist just sounds very bad and bland to me. Pink Floyd is like an oldies band that I can sort of tolerate listening to as background noise or can appreciate as having some “classics” but would never choose to listen to of my own volition.

I saw someone say once that Tool fans are like battered wives with Stockholm Syndrome.

Never saw the appeal. Every Tool song just kinda plods along. And I say that as a pretty big Grateful Dead fan.

Tool is one of those things that I like to hear when it's on, but none of the songs actually stick with me to where I can remember them afterwards.

Pink Floyd will randomly pop into my head occasionally and I can remember plenty of great moments. Same for other great bands like The Doors, Alice in Chains, Lynyrd Skynyrd etc

Maybe it is the vocal style. The fact that I can't remember anything Tool has ever said. Maybe because I can't understand what they're saying.

If you like TOOL and Pink Floyd I highly recommend you checks out all the stuff Akira Wada was into. Prism and a few other bands and gigs and his solo stuff. one of the best guitarists to ever come out of Japan. Music is ever everything from Floyd like to heavy metal.

The slow build is incredible. You can actually feel the emotion in his guitar, too.





And if you like those emotional guitar notes you obviously need to listen to Dire Straits
