people say video games are degenmode

and they kinda are I get it. it's not like you gain any valuable skill from it.

but

if time was of no object and you didn't have to work and had to fill the days, i would be playing a game like wow classic 100%. not all day but definitely a few hours everyday

i know i was a kid when i was playing games like runescape/wow, but that **** was fun no doubt and i didn't have depression/anxiety then that's for sure.

i know i was a kid though and no responsibilities blah blah but play along

34 years old and I'll take vacation time when a new game drops I want to play and I'll rot for a week or two straight.

No fuks given. I worked hard to be able to rot when I want.

I also play alot of fast paced fps, my hand eye coordination is juiced

Most people who say this about video games also binge the entire season of Stranger Things when it drops.

video games aren't degenmode. it's a large part of people who play video games that are, especially those who are referred to as "gamers."

here's an example:note all the overwatch merchandise. "brb, adulting!"

Extracurriculars are far more valuable than video games. If I could go back in time, I would have never asked for video games, instead would have kept going as a Scout, learned survival skills, and spent more time outside with kids than wasting about 4-5 years of my life on video games. Thank fuk, it was only 5 years max I spent on video games. But those are 5 years lost and did absolutely nothing to benefit me as a human and especially as a man. Video games are for the aimless, plain and simple.

this

people waste their time constantly yet gamers get hate lmfao

I'd even put it that gaming contributes more to valuable skills than a lot of other leisure activities

Video games taught me how to not waste money on useless chit, but if I want to make a big purchase, I have to work for it.

Being a multi millionaire in GTA V online is pointless, if you live in mommy's basement in your 30's.

I think playing video games as a kid can be very beneficial. Definitely strengthens intellect, problem solving skills, appreciation of story / music / design, reading comprehension, hand-eye-coordination.
Of course one should also have a hobby based on creative skill like painting or playing guitar or something, and another based on exercise / physicality. But as far as mentally and artistically, many video games are some of the GOAT pieces of media.

It is about balance. I mean skipping a semester of college and failing out because you wanted to poopsock WoW back in the day - not smart.

Playing games here and there? Why not?

I think that the problem with vidya games are that you get huge dopamine rushes when playing them. And after huge gaming session you feel like a lot worse than before session. At least for me. But if you do it in moderate and don't get too addicted to it, then it's not big deal.

Do whatever you want. It’s more interactive than tv and everyone except Indian immigrants own a tv. Pro tip though- on your death bed it’s going to suck when you realize most of your enjoyable memories are unreal tournament kills.

this. I also think they slowly start to burn you out and lose interest after awhile. I use to love video games in my teenage years. Now they don't do much for me

Either way, idc what anybody does on their free time as long as it isn't harming others. We all end up in the dirt rotting.

It is a complete waste of time, and I could think of a hundred other things I should be doing that would add much more value to me/life..but if you are financially stable, healthy, and are otherwise doing the things in your life that you know need to be done, an hour or two here or there for entertainment value, gaming for me is far more engaging then watching TV, a sports game at a bar, or any other wasteful habit that people find themselves doing

I beat GTA 5 last summer @ age 33 after not playing anything for 15 years and honestly vidya games are the most immersive and complex art form available.

Going to try RDR2 next.

BRB doing heroin is bad but there are crackheads out there.

Take your **** logic back to Timmyville with you.

What about people who don't play video games or binge Netflix?

Also no surprise that some of the most obnoxious (and clearly friendless) posters around here are defending that.

Maybe if you spent your formative years socializing, making friends like a normal person, instead of jacking off and playing video games you wouldn't feel compelled to be obnoxious on a dying gay Indian bodybuilding site for a little attention on the internet?

Just a thought

honestly on your deathbed who cares? it all doesnt matter when you die anyways as long as you had a good time and dont regret not doing what you wanted in life.

I think someone who spent their whole life working towards something has way more regrets no matter what they did, than a person who just enjoyed their life doing as they pleased.

There is no winning in life so always chasing things other than what you want is ultimately meaningless.

as an adult, what is "useful"?

is there some set goal we are all supposed to be working towards? if you are self sufficient, dont take away from society, then how the **** is the way one person spends their free time any more valuable or useful than how another one does? Once you become a grown adult and set in life youre really just dying, so live out life the way you want.

i just dont see how if you have 2 30 year olds who pay their bills, if one chooses to go work out, hike, spend time with friends outdoors, etc... is more "useful" than someone who has a blast playing WoW all weekend BSing socially with friends on there and discord, and watching movies/shows while slamming peanut butter sammies and cold cuts

its all the same really as long as you are happy
