tbf I watch F1 even though I don't race cars.... I do drive a car.... but not an open-wheel race car lmao.

Although I see F1 as a progression of engineering, I don't see it as a "sport" which is somehow way different IMO.

I've read so many books this year on how they engineer the aerodynamics, weight distributions, how obscenely light and strong everything is, etc. Driver skill can only be compared in the same car.

Occasionally I step back and have this epiphany about how absurd everything actually is. Nothing actually makes sense if you think too hard about it.

I really enjoy bass fishing, but it makes zero sense.

brb buy $60k+ boat
brb spend thousands on rod and reel combos


Just tohopefullycatch a little green fish that rarely grows over 10 lbs. And then throw him back in.

Me too. But in Louisiana if you're a trophy hunter you can literally spend 20-30 years before you kill one.

I don't care if someone watches ball sports on occasion but I find the fanaticism around it hilarious. At least Bass fishing gets you out of the house, on the water, doing an activity that requires a great deal of skill.

Imagine if someone would obsess over bass fishing. Buy the shirts. The gear. Etc. Get signatures from their favorite bass fishermen. Watch all the fishing tournaments on TV. Watch replays on youtube. Bet on which fishermen catches the biggest fish or wins. Occasionally travel to a lake or river to spectate other men fishing for Bass. Etc.


But they don't actually bass fish. They just love to watch other men have fun fishing for Bass.


Wouldn't that seem incredibly bizarre?

Sports couch potatoes are the dumbest. Brb watching 8 hours of other men chasing a ball on Sunday.

At least the guys playing video games are actively competing against other people.

I call it the toughest sport because you can hit the best shot of your life & then follow it with the worst


It's the only sport I ever actually had to work hard at to be truly good; takes years of discipline/patience





Either way bass fishing is probably my favorite hobby

Very easy to take time out of your day to go down to the muni course, low risk of injury, not much effort required physically at amateur level, emotionally draining (the highs and lows), easy way to spend time with friends, great thing to do if your going on a trip with friends or other couples (guys can go golf while chicks waste time at mall)

tons of reason I understand why people play golf

I don't really get it, but then I love Pool (and even have a Pool Table in my living room) which is also hitting balls into holes.

Golf captains choice tournaments are great fun and great networking and you get to spend a work day on the course, maybe holler at a cart girl or 2.

For the more serious player, weekend long handicapped tournaments with some cash and bragging rights in the game are about as much fun as a middle aged Retoaded can have.

The 2 games have very similar principles, in fact I used to play golf with 2 professional pool players

On my best day I was a 9-speed on a table so they would run racks on me, but on the golf course it was reversed since I was a +1 handicap at the time(shoot par or better)



Those 2 guys would go out with golf clubs every weekend, it was their secret to prime hand-eye-coordination srs

Golf is fun to play and a great social game. Watching sports again, is a great social event. Playing video games can be very social.

I guess that's the appeal for losers who sit home watching sports all day. They can sort of identify as a part of a team or community, even though they aren't actively participating in anything. Just getting piss drunk and slobbering all over themselves.

Agreed. I find the people super into most sports past age ~25 were never good athletes themselves. 95% of the time it's people who were mediocre to bad that go to all of the games and talk about sports for hours.

Anyway, I came in here to say fantasy football.

Watching sports in and of itself isn't that weird. But being the type of sports fan who is rabid about it is another matter. Rabid sports fanhood is arguably a lot weirder than being a casual WWE fan, action movie fan, or whatever.
I think that is a common theme ITT. Most hobbies get pretty weird the closer you approach to psychotic levels of fandom/obsession, not really the hobby itself.

Played golf as a single a couple of weeks ago early morning. Teed off at 6:00am. Got grouped with 3 older guys. 1 was 87 years old.

I watched that man play 18 holes and enjoyed the entire time. I hope I'm still doing it at 87.
