There is a series called Otherland by Tad Williams that predates the matrix and any real VR in the real world. Its pretty much coming true and yes imagine how people live glued to their phones already and with social media, except in 30 years they will be glued into VR with neuro-feedback.

Interesting to note that the premise of Soylent Green is based on the Elite creating a new society for themselves by taking advantage of a “climate crisis” which has lead to food and power shortages, supply chain issues and extreme poverty. The movie was ahead of its time and does not get the credit it deserves due to Heston being a caricature of himself by that point.

Another film worth noting on this topic is George Lucas’ THX1138….very bleak but prophetic depiction of the future. Fun fact: the “THX” sound intro we enjoyed at the beginning of ever film in the 80’s and 90’s is named after that film…again, very prophetic and appropriate to have the catch-phrase for that being “The audience is listening” considering the plot of THX1138. The irony is lost on most.

Watched this movie Strange Days about a year ago, and it looks like it will be pretty accurate soon.
