My ex is dating a guy who mows lawns for a living

This is a woman who has always been all about appearances. Now she's with some dude who runs his own lawn cutting business. He does drive a pretty nice late model Ram truck, not sure if he's deeply in debt or maybe there's more money to be made in lawn mowing than I realized (doubt it).

It's the absolute last thing in the world I'd want to do for a living... but you're assuming that it's somehow a chit thing to be doing. Landscaping is big business and they can make pretty good money doing it.

Don't be a hater.

My brother-in-law has been supporting a wife and kids for many years, making a good living "cutting grass" for a living.

You can say that about lots of jobs. For starters, I wouldn't cut grass for a living if I could make a million dollars a year. Dead serious. I put in my time doing stuff I didn't like for a living, and I'm past that point in my life.

But to answer your question more specifically, it's not the "cutting lawns" part that's difficult for people to figure out... it's the running a business part.

Trimmer 700 to 1000

Blower 700 to 1000

That's just 3 necessities for a 1 man crew.

But if you cut 10 houses a day that's 350 a day minus fuels and maintenance.

Pick up a side project on Saturday for an extra 2 to 400 in profit.

You should pay for a lawn service brah. See how much it is. Recently had a front lawn (selling the house) that got a citation from the county for the grass being too high

Had a dude come do it on a friend's word.. he just did the front yard. Took him less than an hour and I think he said 75-100. But I gave him 150

Anyways I was just thinking. Even if he did 2 lawns that's pretty good money. Now, a lot of start up cost with the equipment. He had a nice azz lawnmower. And having employees will eat into the cost but he didn't even do anything else other than mow. Nor did he do our backyard. I'm imagining they cut at least 5 a day

Lawn care goes beyond just cutting lawns and let's be honest...it's back breaking work. Summer can be hot af and those guys are out all day long. I have couple friends that do it for a living and they make good $$.

Friend's uncle makes 150k with his lawn care business, and he only has 2 or 3 workers so it's not even a big operation. His workers make 15/hr. The money is not in the ability to run a mower.

edit: he has commercial property and neighborhood contracts. not doing a yard here and there.

I'm a small business owner. One thing I definitely noticed is 99/100 people will have absolutely no clue how much money you make.

The only people who have an idea are people who have actually been involved in business and not just a worker. The rare smart guy.

Also I can see myself doing something like that as another business idea, so long as the numbers make sense.

I know less than nothing about landscaping, but if you have even a small crew who mows 5-10 yards per day x5-6 days per week... you're not going to be able to use some standard Wal Mart Murray mower you bought for $500. You're going to have to buy something that's built to withstand more volume of work. Not to mention, they'll need to be efficient (read:nfast - like the standing ones that move twice as fast as a riding mower) so you can get more yards done. I have no idea how much that would be, but it's not going to be cheap, I'm sure.

A lot of money to be made in landscaping. You can probably break 6 figures just working by yourself if you have the right clients.

And pretty easy to scale the business.

one gimmick i was thinking about recently since i use an unpowered reel mower was some kinda "green" business where you use those and also electric mowers/blowers/trimmers

you could easily charge more to gay libs and your maintenance/fuel costs would be lower (plug your chargers into their external outlets while you're working hehe)

have an electric truck that you write off as well etc

they would absolutely eat that bullchit up here
