Teenage me would recognize my life to a tee. BRB STEMmaxxing every day, posting on internet forums erry day, only friends are Indian men, none of that changed. He'd be bummed I didn't have a wife or gf though. I always figured it would "just happen" one day.

its funny how the American "dream" goes from an actual dream to just working for retirement and slaving away for $$$$(for what?)

This is my ultimate goal, you need money to live but being what some would call “rich” really doesn’t make life better.

More money more problems.

sure but you always have the choice to live the life you want before you die, never forget that. Too many people do until its too late, then there is no restart or do over.

I got everything I wanted. It wasn't exactly how I imagined (what is?) but I still feel pretty damn lucky.

No.

Probably two of the biggest steps are who you connect to by the college choice you make and which women you end up with.

Exceeded all my expectations. Thought I would be an incel, living in an apartment, making $50k, overweight, and playing video games all day.

I'm married with a kid and a house. In better shape than just about everyone I know and make over $100k. I also work a lot of hours and don't have a lot of free time to relax, spend time with friends, or pursue hobbies, but no one leads a perfect life.

I always dreamt about having a lot of money and friends.

I made a lot of money but it cost me all my friends.

So kind of.

Yeah I've had an amazing career, beautiful teen and I continued to play tennis after college. I had a ton of fun with my daughter when she was young and now I'm having fun at NFL games and with my adventure club.

Yes, and then some.

At the same time, if you asked me at 30 if I'm where I thought I would be at 40, I would have laughed and not believed it.

I started drinking heavy duty OJ around 31 years old, and it really screwed me up mentally. It caused me a combination of severe anxiety and an overwhelming urge to improve myself at the same time.

That led me to break up with my girlfriend, sell my house, and move to Colombia to learn Spanish and figure out the next chapter of my life. ded fkn srs.

Fast forward 7 years, I'm married, stable job, two kids, and doing ok but life is really hard. There is very little free time to do anything and I really feel trapped. I have made some really stupid decisions regarding finances(horrible investments in real estate) that I seriously regret, and am currently working through getting out of it.

TL;DR I thought life would be easier during your 30s. Life just seems to get more complicated as you get older.

I thought I’d be retired by now, focusing on hobbies, dating around, and collecting cars. I didn’t get that stuff, but what I do have is a better understanding of what I value.

Doing so much better than teenaged me could’ve hoped for. Teenage me was looking forward to being a washed up junior hockey player working the rigs. Did that for a few years and smartened up
Now I’ve got a beautiful wife and home, amazing, healthy and smart kids and a job that pays enough that I’m not struggling and I çan give my kids the life I didn’t get growing up
