He said he nearly broke his hand repeatedly wailing the pitbulls head, had to prize it's jaw open with a knife while the pitbull owner was a hysterical woman. Fortunately his dog just needed stitches, scared for life of pitbulls now though.

Had to put ours down a couple years ago. My youngest was absolutely heartbroken, but it was the right decision and I was not about to spare my daughters feelings just because. He became violet towards our livestock first, and after that, the experience made me see pits very differently and I no longer trust them.
Animals dont reason through things. They don’t have “free will”. They act on instinct, which means they can act in primitive and unpredictable ways at any moment.
We went with a Great Pyrenees this time. Very docile and much better with kids and livestock. More predictable breed in general.

Clearly there exists a genetic susceptibility in pits for violence, and importantly it is not always predicted by past behavior or environmental circumstances. I wish owners would learn this. Sad as hell.
We just got a puppy … KC Spaniel. Did lots of research and wanted a breed that would be good with our 2 young kids. He’s so friendly, calm, and intelligent.
We looked at the rescue route, but 80% were pit or pit mixes. Did not want to deal with that. Also, as first time dog owners, didn’t think we could deal with training and the uncertainty of a random dog.
