Uneven/offset railing, needs to be sanded to avoid getting splinters.

You could cut a 90 degree notch out of the slanted one to marry it up, but that would look terrible (not as bad as that though)

If you make an angled join, the ends of each piece need to be angled by half the corner angle. 90deg join = 45deg slant on the end of each piece.
