The company I work stopped hiring Americans after Trump left office. The last 20 people brought on have been from India, and they're not even bothering to being them over here like they used to.

I don't really think they'll cut programmers as they're hard to hire for the roles they want, but they're not training anyone domestically anymore.

I mentioned Trump as he was going to do away with the visa program that brought those people in. I'm not sure what changed that they're just completely outsourcing everything now. It's ridiculous how poorly regulated IT is. All of these roles can easily be filled by Americans.

This post has been evaluated by ******** fact checkers and found to be mostly false. Reason: misleading interpretation and missing context.

******** is not laying off 15% of its employees. It is only 14.86%, and they were not laid off. They were offered the option of taking a very very VERY early retirement package or becoming an unpaid intern. Also, according to current definitions of the term “recession” it has not started and there’s no indication it will unless republicans get a majority in the house and/or senate next month.

That's funny as a bay area brah it has been abundantly clear to me for over a decade that once the tech monopolies became established that it was only a matter of time before all the high paying jobs at Google, apple, ********, etc got cut and outsourced to other countries. If a corporation can pay people in India 30k to do a job that an American expects 150k for, they will ultimately do it. Only a matter of time. And widespread WFH culture is only going to expedite the change because it demonstrates to the companies that a) they don't need on-site staff in order to succeed, and b) easier to lay a bunch of people off when theyre not in the office with you.

Best of luck tech brahs.

Love this for them. They're probably all liberal dirtbags.

They could do it with any office job, not just tech, and any job that's here physically with visa workers. As far as I know other jobs are better protected. In tech, and in programming specifically, there's a lie that's constantly circulating that Americans can't do any sort of math, therefore companies have to look for workers overseas.

Again if you'er competent as a engineer especially with computer programming, one can always start their own business that can reach incredible scale as a really small team.

This was a long time coming. FB would probably be firing almost all the same people if the economy were booming.
InB4 Elon fires half of Twitter employees.
InB4 Disney+ streaming fires 15% of their employees, but because woke programming went broke.

You don't have to be an amazing programmer to do most cubecell programming jobs. You don't have to know that much math either. But these are well paying cushy jobs that end up being exported.

Idk about other industries, but from what I've seen most office jobs are probably even easier, yet they're not exporting that work.

Nearly 20% of FB employees are visa workers. Im assuming after this lay off it will still be nearly 20%...

Yeah, to insource them instead.

Wall St/Big tech are financing legislation to allow them to insource an unlimited number of workers in all fields. Biden is very close to passing it and becoming law.
