I have heard a few reports where they're saying that they're ineffective. This can be taken as a sign that they're a big problem.

The Biden administration cancelled a meeting between the United States and Saudi Arabia that was scheduled to take place on October 17. This was reported tonight by the Semafor news platform, citing a letter from the US embassy in Riyadh.
"The Embassy of the United States of America presents its compliments to the Gulf Cooperation Council Secretariat and hereby informs the Gulf Cooperation Council that United States officials will not be able to participate in the planned meetings of the United States - Gulf Cooperation Council Working Group on Iran Integrated Air and Missile Defense," the letter read, as reported by Semafor.
Several American lawmakers have introduced bills aimed at pulling American troops from the kingdom and halting arms sales as well.
Recall that on Tuesday the White House said that Biden would reconsider US relations with the Saudi Arabia. The US has also accused Saudi Arabia of aligning with Russia.
The US Democratic administration continues to build up pressure on Riyadh, actively using not the most serious, but sensitive instruments so far. Ahead, we will certainly see decisions regarding the sale of arms and the situation in Yemen. The current aggravation is also taking place against the backdrop of preparations for the midterm elections, which also affects the desire to demonstrate their strength, especially considering how the KSA treated the wishes of the American President as part of the OPEC+ deal.Interestingly , Saudi's relationship with Iran has also improved.

"After Russia successfully took back 100km2 of territory near Liman in the last couple of days, Ukraine tried to counter attack multiple times and completely failed.
The result is that Russia now has an even stronger foothold in the Liman direction."
"really like to know what happened there. AFU should be encircling or capturing Svatovo by now. Not even by now, but a week ago. Either they took horrendous casualties and can't continue advancing or they pulled out troops from that front and put them somewhere else."

In just the 2 days of strikes Russia hit 30% of Ukraines energy infrastructure

https://www.reuters.com/world/europe...er-2022-10-12/
ct 12 (Reuters) - Russia hit about 30% of Ukraine's energy infrastructure in its missile attacks on Monday and Tuesday, Ukraine's Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko told CNN in an interview.
"We send this message to our partners: we need to protect the sky," Halushchenko told CNN late on Tuesday, adding that Russia was disregarding international rules.
"They don't care about any kind of international agreements or conventions."
Damn... these attacks are for sure much more devastating and accurate than I previously thought."We send this message to our partners: we need to protect the sky," Halushchenko told CNN late on Tuesday, adding that Russia was disregarding international rules.

When it comes to controlling territory, it's all about controlling strategically advantageous areas and Population centre.
The Russians are in the process of encircling Bakhmut (a population centre in the Donetsk).
Ukranians have only captured country side and villages, which really doesn't mean much.
You make a big deal about area controlled, but you don't mention population centres. The reason for that is because the Ukranians have captures nothing of value.

Lol at vatniks trying to spin it as Ukrainian forces aren't still making steady gains in east and south Ukraine. Only thing your glorious ruzzians forces can do is lobbing missles at civilians. There was no noteworthy russian offensive since months.

Controlling a farm field doesn't mean much.
I haven't followed the battle for Bakhmut closely. But looking at it now I can see the startegic benefit of this town:
- Its runs alongside a major highway (M03) which heads towards Slovyansk & Kramatorsk
- It intersects with a major higway from Severdonetsk (along with Soledar)

Balakliya was well earned and significant in the Eastern line. It took Russia off guard causing materiel loss. Izyum was much more significant to both sides as a previous artery but is a link in a bigger part of a chain Ukraine will have to build for success [loc building). Lyman was symbolically important to Ukraine and an overall insignicant appendage for Russia(small fort of 500). An (over)extention of the eastern line while the blob of forces were/are working Bakhmut. It looks like that will flip back to Russia in the near future as their eastern line is swelling westward. There's no need for Ukraine to hold it. It will go for sure when the two larger cities go. Ukraine will have to regroup those troops to a better effort elsewhere.

These were where the Kharkov offensive landed which was a brilliant battlefield sprint. Russia got caught with their pants down on an overextended battle line.
However he's right in the regard to population centers being much more significant in value in an overall war.
Ukraine fights like hell However its obvious they hit an impossible wall once Russia retreats onto a second or third protective line. You can clearly see it in situations like Davydov, davychad, the east in Kreminna.

But overall and largely Russian lines have absorbed and repelled the consolidated columns.

In Kherson, the columns were repelled when Russia dropped back south on a third firing line. They were too thin but apparently, no longer
