Miscers with Bipolar Disorder, what is mania like?
~No medication discussion please~
~No medical advice from people who are totally therapists - you're not, be normal~
For clarity, I'm curious about miscers who have been diagnosed, whether you're seeking treatment or not. I have heard mania described as staying up for long periods but the key differentiator between insomnia, anxiety, and just a weird night, is that a person experiencing a manic episode doesn't feel as tired as a normal person would, often for stretches at a time. Is that accurate?
I'd also like to hear more about how it impacts your daily life. Do you manage without medications? When were you diagnosed? And if you haven't been diagnosed but think you might deal with some of this, I'd love to hear from you. Anything at all you'd like to share, and I'll do my best to monitor and remove any egregiously harassing posts.
(No Mossad, really just being nosy about you people :P )

I can't speak from my own experience because I don't have that disorder, but I once banged a chick who I believe was in the middle of a manic episode. She was pretty insane and told me that she was diagnosed bipolar. And when she had a manic episode, she was flush with energy for days and it was the type of thing if she was driving down the LIE and saw a road crew doing work, she would be inclined to pull over and get gangbanged by the whole crew. So she would get really horny and would engage in risk-seeking behavior.
I got tested afterwards, I'm clean. Thank God.

There’s an upside and a downside. When I was younger I had the upside, but as I’ve gotten older, it’s been more on the depression side.
Nah bro I’m sweet.

Was she under the care of anyone, or just unmedicated and running free? Did you ever ask her about the sexual impulses? What did she say? I wonder where that stems from. Was there any shame involved?
Really glad you're out of there. How are YOU? Are you healing? Feel free to share as little or as much as you'd like.

While I don't deal with that exactly, there are some things in my inner world where I know it's not typical, exactly, but I don't really mind them. Does anything help the depression? Do you think you quite literally just outgrew some of the mania?Train hard, train smart, have fun!

I think the sexual impulses and risk-seeking is a feature of the manic episodes and bipolar illness. I never really asked if she actually banged a whole road crew on the side of the LIE in the middle of the night, I was pretty taken back by that statement. But I kinda got the idea and I didn't really want to get into more of it. I was hoping it was more of an example she was using to illustrate her sexual desires, rather than being something that actually happened. But, you never know and it's the kind of thing you will never forget someone saying. Overall, 12/10 sex drive. She had another comorbidity, which could have enhanced it, as well.
Yeah, I'm doing good, thanks for asking. Took a bit to walk that one off.

As a bystander it feels like a freight train speeding at extremely high and dangerous speed that you are unable to stop.
In a manic state that person’s extreme behavior is not manageable by discussion or reasoning or appeasement or any other reaction really. It only stops when the episode eventually passes and they pass out from exhaustion. You can’t control it before then unless you get law enforcement involved. So as a bystander it’s a feeling of extreme powerlessness.

Not bipolar myself (I think) but the girl I’ve been involved with off and on the for the last three years is
For her, Mania is not just being awake and not tired, but it’s also feeling grandiose, motivated, it’s when you have the POWER to do anything
It’s when your superpowers become activated
That can be cleaning your entire house and baking a bunch of stuff in the middle of the night, it can be impulse shopping and spending all your money on stuff you don’t even want or need, or having a spontaneous dance party in the middle of the night on a weekday, it can be sexual or drug related, it could be a mixed episode when you’re both manic and depressed at the same time where you feel suicidal and finally have the energy to act on it
Bipolar people in general tend to be hyper sexual. Whether or not that aspect is a result of childhood trauma (sexual), a result of having bipolar disorder, or if having bipolar disorder goes hand in hand with childhood trauma, I don’t know. I do suspect she was molested as a child and that is at the very least a contributor to her hyper sexuality if not her bipolar disorder, but she has no recollection of it.
It also tends to run in the family.

Mania is the most amazing feeling on the planet when it hits right. I’ve learned to channel mine into positive means and lawd when every single thing you do and say is on point combined with the energy and confidence of a million Superman’s it’s just indescribable… however the lows that follow, often out of nowhere, that’s just nothing but straight damage control at best. It’s a hard thing to describe on a whim all the way around.

BI POLAR 1 here.
For me mania is no sleep for days. I can't wind down. Not even sleeeping meds help.
For a bit i'm motivated and productive... then i slowly slip into walking zombie mode after a few day.
I can be hyper active and hyper sexual.
Otherwise it's various degrees of depression. Lots of nightmares.

Never shared this here, but diagnosed bipolar crew checking in.
Mania is not all it's cracked up to be. You have a very hard time focusing, your mind races, and you get irritated extremely easily. Even something like a cat brushing on your leg can cause you to fly off the handle.
The issue is the instability of mood. You will be bubbly and cheery one second, turn into a raging psycho the next, and then act pissy and depressed.
You also do and say stupid chit during manic episodes. I have been absolutely ruthless to significant others, saying things I wouldn't have said otherwise.
It's legit feels like:
Surge of energy that feels like you downed 2 energy drinks
Social filter of drinking a 6 pack of beer
Irritability level of someone eating the hi-c infused Mike O'Hearn-approved baloney sandwiches.
Crash where all you do is listen to The Smiths and mope.
TL;DR It sucks. do not recommend/10.

So i was a psych major CJ minor and always was interested in the mind and of course had an interest in serial killers psychology and I remember learning how they(organized type) often killed in cycles close to the lunar cycles.
I also remember learning about bi polar people and having their cycles and my wife's best friend has bpd. She has cycles in line with the lunar cycles and it will be like 2-3 days mania, 3-5 days depression, then the rest of the time its kind of balanced more or less, then another cycle.
So makes me wonder if many serial killers had BPD mixed with the Antisocial personality disorder and thats what caused their killing cycles during the manic phases, also explains the sexual aspect many had with the killings.

I have a friend who isn’t diagnosed, but almost certainly has this. We used to party together and do a lot of Pepsi together, and if he had an audience and some impressionable girls in the mix he could talk and have crazy energy for days. Partying and substances is what really amplifies it.
There was one time specifically we stayed up for like an entire weekend partying and then he was still going nuts on Sunday during the day as we went out to his lake house and he invited some girls out to the boat and I passed out on the grass outside his house when ordering an Uber. Just literally endless energy, the type of stuff where he can still entertain people easily after not sleeping for like 48 hours.
Probably pretty fun for the person. But not productive for general life. Also the degeneracy tends to rub off on people around them, and it sucks everyone’s energy around them.
