no I know plenty of people that commute longer distances.

hell I know people that live in Philly suburbs and take the train to NYC everyday.

Most companies have hiring freezes right now. You actually think they’re going to fire people?

If so it won’t because you refused to come to the office, it’s because they wanted to cut resources (people) plain and simple.



I also want to point out with the hiring freezes many companies are hiring contract workers since full time hires are frozen. These contract hires are many times remote. Meaning the model isn’t dying any time soon.

What does this have to do with calling people back to the office? Unless you’re saying people are more productive in the office? Lmao no. It’s not hard to evaluate performance of remote workers.

Remote workers will see an uptick of what’s asked of them if layoffs are happening same as if they were in the office. Do you actually think they won’t just because they’re remote? And if those things don’t get done they’ll be fired for poor performance.

so many companies closed physical offices i can't see removing hyrid/wfh as a realistic option for many.

My last employer tried terminating wfh/hybrid and had to back down as too many people threatened to quit. And they own a giant campus that's half empty now and has been.

Again, the benefit if COVID was that it destroyed the old, inefficient, model of butts in seats, and exposed a lot of positions in companies that weren't needed.

Ie: wasting money.

If you don't trust your employees to get work done without spare tire, balding middle management Roger walking around all day long looking over people's shoulders, that's on you for hiring idiots.

You're losing twice the money, because you hired someone incompetent, and on top of that hired someone to look over them, yo ensure they get their work done.

Anyone with half a brain could write a book on the pluses of wfh, from less overhead to happier workers..etc..etc..

Some people can be forced back into the office unfortunately. I’ve been remote since 2017, but that’s common in my field (cyber security). We’re also not help desk jockeys (no disrespect as that’s a very common foot in the door job), so our work can’t be outsourced to India or someplace cheap. Sad boomers who only have work as their source of joy are likely pushing for the end of wfh. They can’t stand their families, and can’t figure out how to work basic tech so they’d rather everyone else suffer with them.

company does not physically have offices for any individuals in our entire department for the entire enterprise across the nation - and this is not remotely unique for my job role across organizations in the nation

but by happenstance, i live <20 mins from one of the main hubs
