what % of your waking life do you spend doing stuff you don't want to do

if you would honestly be given the choice.

what % of your waking day (morning rise - evening bed) do you think you spend doing **** you don't want to do?

second question, why are you still doing that stuff?

i think that's the problem , i do almost 100% what i want to do , but not what i really need to do. i probably need to start over at some different country to actually achieve something , but can't leave comfort that easily.

I suffer now and plan to relax later. I have a legit calculated shot at retiring/FIRE before 30 and not gonna relax and miss the opportunity

I understand what you're saying - nobody's time here is guaranteed.

Delayed gratification works for me personally, but your mileage may vary. Everyone is wired differently.

When you're in school and you have a project due next Monday, you can avoid working on it all week and play video games, and "enjoy yourself" instead of doing the work. You know you should be working on the project, so it's unlikely you're really enjoying yourself to the fullest by the way. Sunday afternoon rolls around, and you've not started. That never felt great to me.

Most goals in life, whether they be career, athletic, relationship, creative, financial, acaedmic, whatever - require you to do things you don't necessarily want to do. (Yes there are of course exceptions). But you do them because you understand that discomfort on the front end leads to a bigger pay-off in the end.

You can of course swipe ALL of this aside through a nihilistic outlook and say "who cares, why does any of that matter? i'm going to die some day and all of that work will have been for what? i'd rather spend all day fishing, or playing video games, or with my freinds, etc." -- if that's your goal or view, then i'm not sure what to tell you lol. there's no one size fits all

You were right above, everyone is wired differently. In this scenario - I know it well, it is my preferred way to operate and I do actually enjoy myself during the week because that is the way I am wired, I know when I put things off and work under the stress my output is signficantly better then when I do the little everyday approach.

Definitely - that's how I operated in school myself. And probably wasn't even a good analogy for me to choose. (ded fkn Srs)

There's others that might be better: Do I want to spend most of my paycheck every week on hobbies, entertainment, rent, eating out etc, or do I choose to forgo some of the things I want to do to save up for a house that I intend to buy in 2 years?

Since I have to work full time to support myself way too much time is spent doing what I don't want to do.

Very little - I have designed my life to focus around "doing what I want to do", including:

1. Being with a woman who is the right balance of independent / power couple;
2. Investing in property from an early age - which reaps fantastic dividends;
3. In a high income career - some colleagues are toxic, but over time I have learned to dominate them - one was recently denied a promotion and given to a friend of mine who I backed, and she broke down in tears in the office saying it is "because of men". I took her out for a coffee and explained to her, as gently as I could, that it is her toxic attitude - constant malicious gossip; double standard promotion (be in the office! to her team during COVID - she never came in); and in general her abusive methodology that made her unfit for senior management.

As tears trickled down her plump cheeks I smiled. I had won - my victory was complete.

I feel the same way when I see monetary transfers (rents) on a monthly basis.

In essence: the vast majority of what I do in this existence (including writing this post), is done because I want to do it.

Not going to lie - I lead a pretty blessed existence. Woe to those who cross Me, though.

lmao fuark dude. yeah absolutely. goals are important. in a way i understand people like Asmongold who just 'rots' playing video games all day because I have the nihilistic approach to some extent. because **** man rotting is what we are literally going to do eventually and then that's it (at least in this life form) so might aswell enjoy time here and eak out every last drop of anything you find enjoyable. so if it's video games? i kinda get it.

but it'sextremelylimiting. i mean yeah it's better than heroin or drinking all day. but surely there's something else a bit more worthwhile that you can extrapolate enjoy from. there's a fine line between rotting in a cubicle 9-5 (a more glamous form of rotting) and just playing video games all day
